Cannot delete X: It is being used by another person or program.

Cannot delete X: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

Of course I have tried closing any programs I know of that may be using the file (used X because the filename does not matter...it is a specific log file name to the application).

I am logged onto a Windows Server 2003 computer that acts as a server for a LAN, but is physically joined to a domain.

The local clients are not on the domain, just the local workgroup.

There is a roaming profile that the server has used (domain user), but even when logged on with a local admin user, I cannot delete this file from the server.

*all applications are closed that should be using it and the related services are stopped.
*The scheduled process should be able to delete this file locally or from any of the clients without human intervention. It works seamlessly everywhere else and is a tried and true application. This is not scheduled in Windows, but the application has an event scheduler that fires the process. The process runs on one of the clients and part of the execution of this process is to delete this log file from the server's shared drive.

I know there is a configuration flaw, but I cannot put my finger on it. Is there a DOS command or a Windows application I can download that will report the "holding" person or program for this log file? That may help me to restirct or allow access where I need to.

HELP!
Thanks in advance!

best program for this is 'handles.exe'

Sysinternals Handles program

this will show what has a file open , the other thing to check on a server is that nobody has the file open remotely , to check this use computer management and select 'shared folder' then 'open files'

I have some programs running on Red Hat Linux 7.3 working with IBM DB2 V6.1 (with all the FixPacks) on my old machine. I have just installed IBM DB2 V8.1 on this (new) machine running Red Hat Enterplise Linux 3 ES, and applied FixPack fp5_mi00069.tar to it. After creating an instance, starting the database, creating a database, and entering the table definitions, all of which seems to work OK, I entered a tiny 8-row table and can do...

asp.net app - How do you get Java-side code to communicate with server-side code? I have tried numerous ways and examples, but have been unsuccessful. Therefore, unless I get real lucky and find another way of doing a messagebox, none of the existing ways will work with the code we have already written. Most all of the message box examples that I have found had the message box code being executed behind a button, which triggers a...

Hi, I'm writing a program in Visual C# 2005 Professional Edition. This program connects to a SQL Server 2005 database called "Generations" (in which there is only one table, called "Generations"), and it allows the user to add, edit and delete the various records of the table. "Generations" table has the following fields: "IDPerson", NamePerson", "AgePerson" and "IDParent". A record contains the information about a person (his name, his...

I have experienced a problem here while doing a form for accessing datadbase using MS Access. I'm using the AccessDataSource control, and using Gridview to pull the data from the database. I am able to see the contents in the database, but whenever I click "Delete" or "Update", the data never gets deleted or get updated repectively. It feels as if it was a normal page load, nothing is done to the data in the database. I also have another problem...

Any help appreciated. (VB.NET under XP and Vista, SP1 installed) My code, inherited from a VB6 version of an app that ran under W98, loads an image from a file into a PictureBox. The user may want to move or delete the file that is being shown. The corresponding event- driven code for "delete this picture" uses: My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile(sPath)

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
