Hello Everyone,
This is sort of a followup to the protecting files question I asked earlier
today.
I would like to protect a file so that only certain users could download it
from my website. It would be very easy for me to simply use IIS Admin to
remove anonymous access to that file and to create a new account on the web
server and give those account credentials to my users. That would prohibit
people from directly accessing the file...

Hi,
First of all I my development environment is a Windows XP Professional
machine. For security reasons my development account is a limited account, I
only use the other account (with administrative privileges) for installing
software and changing configuration, etc.
The problem I am facing now is that I cannot debug my ASP.NET application. I
want to be able to single step through my asp.net code under my
"Development" account (which I...

Hi,
I'm having problems with good old error... Login failed for user 'NT
Authority\Anonymous logon'.
The default web page comes up fine, but when the user attempts to log in
(which checks stored usernames in the database etc) then the error occurs.
a) The Web server is on a seperate box to SQL Server.
b) I'm using forms authentication.
c) I've enabled anonymous access, setting it to the correct domain account,

Hi,
a Windows Forms VB.Net application uses a web service method to determine if
the present Windows user account is a member of the admin or power user group
on the server computer (ASP.NET without impersonification, no anonymous user
allowed for the web site in IIS).
That works OK.
If the user is not in one of these groups the authentication fails (that is

Hi,
I wanted a reliable way of detecting if a given NTAccount object
represents a user account or group account. I was using
SecurityIdentifier.IsAccountSid() method but this doesn't work as I
expected. It returns true for user accounts and also for groups created
by administrator. Right now I am using the WMI class
System.Management.ManagementClass to get a list of all local user
accounts and am iterating over them to see if the given...

hi
i have a php site which allows users to save a cookie on their
computer which stores their user id details and allows them to auto-
login.
i'm wondering whether this is safe, is it possible for a malicious
user to find that cookie and change its value and therefore auto-login
as someone else? and if so how can this be prevented?

As in earlier versions of Visual Studio, you keep your Web pages in the root of the Web site and in subfolders, as required by your application. However, your Visual Web Developer Web site can contain the following subfolders that have specific characteristics:
1) App_Browsers folder Contains browser definition files that ASP.NET uses to identify individual browsers and determine their capabilities.
2) App_Data folder Contains...

I've to build a website where the customer can buy an image. I'm thinking in
the 2 ways to let people get those images: receive them by Email or send
them an image link wich validity is limited in time.
The second may help me to know if an image has been downloaded and how many
times.
How to build such download link ?
The informations I'd like is the userid, the datetime limit and the
imagefile, off course everything must be encrypted...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
