Depends, a lot of that is just personal preference some people like Windows, others like OS X, and then there are other that like Linux.

Each person will tell you that they OS they use is the best. My suggestion is do a little research, see which one best suits your needs, which one will be easiest for you and your users to get accustomed to.

Make sure you read reviews on the different OS's too.

I would use Windows just because I have been using it my whole life and it would be the easiest for me. But that's just me.

Hi; If I need to read an XML file - basically the SAX approach where I just need each node in order - one pass, read-only - what is the best way to do this. It looks like it's XmlReader but I want to verify that. ??? --

Hi, I'm needing to update an xml file by inserting a new node. First I need to load the xml into a XmlDocument from file. In the first run, the file won't exist and I will have to create a new XmlDocument. What is the best way to do this ? I'm thinking just catching an exception and building a new doc isn't the best way of doing this.

Hello, I am an experienced VB/ASP/COM/SQL developer. I am about to embark on a new web application which is going to be hosted on Windows 2003 Server (previously been using NT4 Server). As this includes the .NET framework, I thought it might be a good opportunity to look into ASP.NET and see what it has to offer. I would like to go with C# rather than VB.NET. I have spent the past couple of hours searching the web for info and have...

For years I have been using VBA extensively for updating data to tables after processing. By this I mean if I had to do some intensive processing that resulted in data in temp tables, I would have VBA code that wrote the results of that away to the db, either creating new records or updating existing records, whichever was relevant. This may also include deleting records. Now I generally do this by opening a recordset on the source data...

Hi. I'm in a jam... I restored a DB2 database from one win 2003 DB2 8 server system to another DB2 8 server system now I can't connect. I'm trying to connect my tomcat app server to the remote DB2 database. It was initially configured to work against the local DB2 database. I can remotely connect via the DB2 command line, but my tomcat app server is failing with: 109 IBatisDogearTransactionManager.perform: Error getting person for

What's the best way of implementing a multi-node tree in C++? What I'm trying to do is traverse a tree of possible chess moves given an intial position (at the root of the tree). Since every chess position has around 30 moves, it would mean every node of the tree would have 30 branches (on average), which in turn themselves would average about 30 branches each. I can think of a variety of ways of implementing this, including a series...

Hi Folks, I am developing an application consisting of a webservice and a Win32 service both written in C#. When the webservice is called it writes a number of records away to a SQL server database. These records require further processing by the Win32 service as soon as they appear in the database. The database in SQL 2000. The easiest way for the Win32 service to check if it needs to do anything is

I am compiling 4 different programs, each using a lot of the same core functions and files. One of the programs requires access to a large third party library, the others do not. I have created an "options" structure suitable for all 4 programs. The way the options structure is filled out however can differ depending on the program which is to be used. Most of it is trivial stuff... "do I write to stdout?", etc. However, one of the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
