You can't password protect folders in Windows XP without the use of a 3rd party tool (if one exists).

Also, some more information on your environment is needed.

Go to Start --> Run --> type in winver.exe and press enter.

A screen should pop up with the Windows XP logo on it. It'll either read Windows XP Home or Windows XP professional, which is it?

Where does this folder reside? On your desktop?

How many people use your computer and do they all have seperate log in accounts?

They'll have to have their own accounts and then you can use NTFS or SFS permissions to deny them access to that folder.

hello I am trying to enumerate the shared folders on a server using the NetShareEnum function. Now, when the server has a password set to access the shared folders, the function returns system error code 5 (access denied). However, if I know the password to access the shares, how can I specify that in my program?

Easier if I illustrate things out... - <authentication mode="Forms"> - Virtual Directory aka Top Level Root = /mysite - Inside /mysite I have 2 sub-folders which I want to password protect = /adminonly and /memberonly - /adminonly is assigned to a single Admin user with a hard-coded pair of username...

Hi I have been using two forms of password protection: A) On working web sites I use an ASP script that is included in every page requiring protection: uses session - works fine B) On quick test sites or temporary stuff I use the Windows Network Authentication provided by my web host. A whole folder is protected at once which is very convenient but it has a problem. If a user types the wrong

Yay guys! I hope you all are having a warm fuzzy loveable day. The following questions are kind of related to this thread: Protect files (on web server) from web admin. If one has password protected zip file: 1) where would the content temporary be extracted to (probably the OS designated temp directory, right?)

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
