Hi Folks
This is probably starring me in the face but how do I read the contents
of a hard drive directory? I've been playing around with the
opendir($dir) sample from php.net and can read from the server without
problem but how can I read a list of files from the hard drive of the PC
(win98 (spit!)) I'm using? Basically what I want to do is read the file
names of a certain directory on the hard drive into an array and then
upload them...

Hi all.
Handling files is an extremely frequent task in programming, so most
programming languages have an abstraction of the basic files offered by
the underlying operating system. This is indeed also true for our language
of choice, Python. Its file type allows some extraordinary convenient
access like:
for line in open("blah"):
handle_line(line)

Ok, first a quick background: I, along with a small group of diehards
came up with a way to disable the EU volume cap protection on the
european ipods. Unfortunately, this way never caught on, as it is a
VERY difficult process for people used to apple products to handle.
Now, to solve the problem, and possibly make it more mainstream, i
would like to create a C++ (or java, altho i hate the language, i also
know a little about it)...

I would like help resolving this problem. I'm a novice who's been
hired to query a hospital database and extract useful information,
available to me only in a dynamically generated, downloadable .mdb.
The query below query runs correctly and without error, but any
attempt to save it causes Access to crash without a message, leaving
the .ldb file. Opening the DB reveals it saved a blank "query1".
I've upgraded to Jet SP 8, and I'm running...

Hello, recently I've been trying to figure out how the heck to just
destroy a thread.
I have since rewritten the code in question, but what I was trying to do
was to use the .Abort() method, but that would fail if the thread was in
a Suspended case.
Now, my book doesn't even hint (Deitel Developer Series, C# for
Experienced Programmers) that a thread might exist in more than one
state, which was also part of my problem. (Fortunately...

This thread was renamed. It used to be: "shared_buffers Question". The
old thread kind of died out. I'm hoping to get some more direction by
rephrasing the problem, along with some extra observations I've
recently made.
The core of the problem is that Postgres is filling up my hard drive
with swap files at the rate of around 3 to 7 GB per week (that's
Gigabytes not Megabytes) . At this rate it takes roughly two months to
fill up my 40...

The following code (which is distilled down from a larger application)
worked for several years previously. Now, the instant you click on
the print icon within the print preview window the workstation crashes
hard: reboots and upon Windows restart wants to send an error report

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
