Install Windows XP through MSDOS

Hi,

I have formatted my C: drive in which WIN98 was installed. I have a bootable floppy and I booted my machine using this floppy. When I run SETUP (EXE) from WINXP CD, it says:

"The SETUP cannot be executed from MSDOS".

Please provide feedback on how do I install WINXP through MSDOS OS?
Any valuable suggestions would be really helpful!!
Thanks!!

I do not see the reason for you booting in MSDOS and then trying to load the XP setup VIA MSDOS...

I would simple place the XP in the ROM and restart then let it boot from there...

I dont see why that wouldnt work???

If you already tryed this is there some more details you could give?

make sure in the BIOS that boot from CD is higher than HD, then with the windows xp cd inside the drive u'll get a message saying "press any key to boot from CD", now press something.

follow the screens and enjoy.

almost forgot,
after the point where it copies the files (after the format) the computer will restart then u'll get that "press any key to boot from CD", this time don't press anything.

Thank you guys for the reply!!

Yes currently in BIOS, Floppy disk is the first bootable option followed by HD and CD. Yes I will change those options....

I made a small mistake by booting WIN 98 from floppy and tried running "SETUP" from the XP CD which didnt allow me to run SETUP from MSDOS version.

I will try booting my machine from CD and then execute the SETUP command and check...

Thanks again!!

Thanks for the info Bharat.

I have installed the XP in my machine but I have another problem now. I am not sure where I am wrong.

The XP gets installed with lowest resolution and does not display the icons, images properly. I am not able to change the resolution from properties window.

Any suggestions on this would be really helpful!!

Hello, I am looking at getting a simple compiler for Windows that I can use to play around with different Open Source software. I am not a full-time programmer (anymore), nor do I plan to write software either. I just want to play around and look at some of the Open Source software that is out there for Windows. Most of the applications are written in C, or C++ and therefore I

The perl scripts I've written in the past all run from either an MSDOS or UNIX command line. Can someone point me to a book or web site that tells how to initiate a perl program in WINDOWS without using the MSDOS command line? Or, if it is not possible to run the code literally without the MSDOS command line, is there a way to make the MSDOS console hidden while the program is executing (I'm using WIN32::GUI for the user interaction)? Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
