Any body knows how to make bootscreens and logons for XP without using any software.
And how to apply
Help
OK, let's do it!

  1. Prepare the picture

Create a bmp picture, size 640 x 480, 16 Colors. MS Paint can save pictures in that format, many other graphic editors can do it too.

Name your picture "boot.bmp" and copy it to your Windows folder (e.g. "C:\Windows \".
  2. Change System settings

Now you have to change the boot settings. Make sure, you can see hidden files (you can set that in "Folder settings"). Make the file "boot.ini", which would be on your root directory (e.g. "C:\"), writable (right mouse click onto it, "Properties ", deselect "Write protected", click "OK") and open it with an editor (e.g. Notepad).

Find the entry "[operating systems]" and to the line beneath, add "/bootlogo /noguiboot". (Example picture in german) Now save and close "boot.ini", make it write protected again and restart your system. If you did every thing correctly, it should load with the new Bootscreen!

What is the best way to limit logons to a website? We assign a user ID and password to each user. These are stored in the database (SQL Server). We want to do two things: 1. Only allow one person to use a specific user ID at a time. So if I log on as user ABC and then someone else tries to logon as ABC, they will not be allowed to logon. 2. Limit the total number of users logged on at a given time. So say there are 10 users and...

Hi, All I use SQL Server 2000 and Win 2003 Server. I try to create a SQL Server Login audit log using Profiler, but cannot find the tools. I looked at the Windows Event Viewer, it only logs Windows authentications users for SQL Server not SQL Server users (Mixed mode users). Please help on creating SQL Server Login log (username, password and time). Thanks

I'm trying to finish implementing security on my database. I have secured the .mdb with a .mdw file as per the MS security FAQ with no problems. The last part of security that I need to implement is that the first person to open and log on to the database gets to use the database. Any subsequent log on users will flip into READ-ONLY mode and won't be able to modify any data. All my users belong to a 'full-data-access' group that...

My boss asked me to build a program to create a report with logon/logoff events for all users within our windows domain. I'm using .Net to do so and decided to have a program running on the Domain Controler to listen to all new events and send them to a database. This last part I haven't worked on yet, cause I can't tell which events are relevant to write to the db and which are not. I have managed to listen to all the security log...

i'm checking the logged on user at start of my program. if the user is not in my database (e.g. he uses his private notebook instead of the company desktop), i want to show a login screen where he can enter his windows username and password. can i somehow send this to the logon server to check if they are correct or do i have to enter passwords manually to my database (i want to avoid this)?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
