Has anyone found a way to open a file exclusively where it
will fail if the file is already open, i have tried the
following
_FileStream = new FileStream(@"C:\Data.txt",
FileMode.Open, FileAccess.ReadWrite, FileShare.None);
which does not prevent me from opening the file even if
another user has the file open ie Notepad, it will prevent
me from saving the file in notepad until i close the file
in the app. I can then save changes made in...

I wrote a C# program that interfaces with a data vendor over the web
using an API they supplied and their examples in C#.
Now I have another data vendor's API and example that I want to add to
my C# program. But this new API is written in Java. They gave me an
example source code that uses their API but the actual API looks like it
is stored in a few .jar files. I unzipped those .jar files into many
.class files. I think these .class...

I think those best practices threads are a treat to follow (might even
consider archiving some of them in a sort of best-practices faq), so
here's one more.
In coding an game asset server I want to keep a large number of file
revisions of varying sizes (1Kb-50Mb) inside the database.
Naturally I want to avoid having to allocate whole buffers of 50Mb too
often.

User wants to go this route instead of storing pointers in the DB and the
documents outside.
Only time I tried it was with only MS Word docs - and that was a loooong time
ago - and it seemed to me like there were performance issues at the time.
How about the different types? The MS docs I would expect Access to
differentiate and handle appropriately (i.e. .DOC and .XLS).. but how about
..PDF? and can I stash a .TXT document in the...

This problem has just suddenly happened. Music samples won't play on Amazon,
files won't open on other sites without downloading. I just want to watch
some things and there are several on the same site. If I have to download
everytime it's a pain. I'm not getting error messages. On Amazon there's no
response at all when I click on "listen" under media player. On the other
sites the box to download the file comes up but no option to open...

Suddenly I find myself unable to open Winforms files in designer mode. I get
the message quoted below. I can open other types of vb files like modules,
classes and code behind files, but simply creating a new project and double
clicking on Form1.vb gets me this message:
<<<
There is no editor available for
'C:\....\Form1.vb'.
Make sure the application for the file type (.vb) is installed.

Hello All,
Does anyone know of a method to automatically detect if a file is
corrupted ?
Due to a failed backup process a number of files were corrupted. The
files are mostly .xls, .doc, .pdf. When you try to open the file, a
dialog box opens stating that the file cannot be opened.
I need to log which files wont open properly, and I'm hoping there is
a way to automate the process.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
