remote password reset

65 New Member
we have a user that is on his laptop at a conference. over the weekend he changed his password on the laptop but - surprise! - forgot the password. he is still away at the conference and needs to get into the network remotely using his account (for remote desktop).

is there a way to reset his password for the domain on his laptop without physically being connected to the domain?

i have looked into password reset tools, but if there is a known methodology that doesn't require additional software, that would be great

thanks

You'd need and admin account that you CAN get into in order to change the account that nobody can get into. There ought to be one! Nobody should be running around logged on as "Administrator" .

I forgotten my password a few times, and it has been changed when i dont want it to be i.e. virus's. a few methods i've used are 1) At the welcome screen, press control alt delete a couple times to change the logon window, enter 'Administrator' for the username and nothng for the password. if that dont work. 2) Press F8 at the boot screen and boot your computer up in safe mode. This automatically gets you in as administrator and you can do whatever needs to be done. 3) my last option, this is a security hole in windows xp's software. You need to have a OS cd for your computer. boot up on the disk, at the welcome to setup screen, press enter to setup windows now. next, hit F8 to agree, then at the setup screen press r to repair. next, after the reboot wait for the installation label to say 'Installing Devices', when you see that, press Shitf+F10. at the command prompt type in NUSRMGR.CPL and press Enter. You now have access to the user accounts. When finished, exit the command prompt and finish with the repair. After all this work, i suggest you make a password reset disk.

*NOTE:Make sure you have your product key*

Hello, I have been scanning the internet for a few days now. That is not working. So now it is time to post! I have read a few other posts on here about authentication but they do not match exactly. We currently have an intranet app built in a mixture of asp and asp.net 1.1 and 2.0 written in VB .Net. We have a form where the user logs in and it authenticates against active directory successully in 2 ways: 1. The admin resets the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
