Windows Time Service

89 New Member
What is the basic configuration for the Windows Time Service to work as a Time Server so that computers of the LAN can syncronise with it?

Is there a better way of doing it without having to manually change registry settings like explained here? : http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=k...4054&x=11&y=22

I think its not necessary to install the official NTP (Network Time Protocol) once this service comes built in windows, correct ?

thank you.

If, by "LAN", you mean simple file sharing home network, then set each computer up to receive its own service: Double-click your clock (or Control Panel|Date and Time); it's on the Internet Time tab. If you have a domain server, the setup is probably what you read about.

Hi!
I got it to run now, by changing the registry in the link I posted. But, there is a weird problem.

In the LAN, I tested it with 2 pcs. One client worked fine, but the other says that "The RPC server is not running". It seems like it doesnt even try to sync, because as soon as you release the button the error appears.
They are both (including the server) with the same OS, WinXP Sp2.

Any ideas?

Help me please, I'm totally stuck! My Visual Studio 2003 debugger stopped working after I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2. Here is what happens (with any project, even a "Hello, world" message): the first time I open a project and try to start it in debug mode, Visual Studio hangs before executing the first line of code. The only way to stop it is to kill the process using the Task Manager. If I open the same project a second time and...

Hey guys, I've written a fairly simple Windows C# Application using Visual Studio 2005. I have to manually run it, but I would prefer to have it run on it's own, as if it was a Windows NT Service. I am a Delphi convert (still use it for some jobs). When developing in Delphi, I would write a console application that would basically run on it's own. In order for me to register it as a Windows NT Service, I seem to recall that I would do...

I have a Windows (NT) service developed in .NET 3.5 (VS2008). I want this service to log messages to a WinForms application that will display it's progress to the user. It has to run under Vista, so I can't use an interactive service. The monitoring application will just display a list of these log entries as they arrive. I'd like to use WCF (using it to consume a third party web service already). However, I can't fnd any examples that...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
