For that you have to enable the "allow log on locally" which is presented in the Domain controller security in your win2k3 server. And your account must have rights to access the remote logging.

I would try a few different things:

1) ping the machine - it will tell you if your computer can even contact the remote computer at the moment

Start-> Run -> cmd
Will bring up a command line and then
ping (either machine name or ip address here)
The IP address is found by doing and ipconfig at the command line of the remote machine, and the name is whatever the machine was named when it was first installed.

2) Make sure RDP is available on the remote machine.
Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Remote -> Allow Remote Desktop
That should bring up a box where you can type in the username of the person you want to be able to access the machine.

That's what I'd do first.

PS - this is in the Windows Articles section at the moment. Next time you should make sure to post in the Windows Forum section, and you will get more responses, probably faster as well.

Hi all, I'm investigating a remote access solution for a client. Five employees need to work from home on an Access 2K split db. It's all working well on the LAN, but I wonder what is the best solution for remote access? -I've read that VPN won't work due to speed and corruption issues. -Terminal Services/Remote Desktop worked well during my tests on my XP boxes, but wondering about security issues (sensitive data will be...

We've had a very large A97 app running fine for the last seven years. I've just converted to SQL Server backend, which is being tested, but meanwhile the JET based version, running under terminal server, has suddenly started running very slowly. The network engineer has thrown up his hands and said "It's Access 97". I've checked out lots of things including the Oplocks setting and other stuff from this NG, and I think I've done everything...

Hi, I've been using an Access application I wrote for an office with the front-end stored on all computers and the back-end on one of them serving as an Access file server. Now we're moving to a 2nd office 15 minutes down the road. Only one office will be open at a time, so theoretically it'd be possible to copy the back-end manually every night from one office to another, but frankly, that's pretty annoying.

Hi What future does access have after the release of vs 2005/sql 2005? MS doesn't seem to have done anything major with access lately and presumably hoping that everyone migrates to vs/sql. Any comments? Thanks

Hi, I have developped a Windows applcation (in C#) that allows, among other things, users to view and control the desktop of a remote Windows XP Pro machine. I have actually simply embedded the Remote Desktop ActiveX control in my C# app and this works fine. However i have now a new requirement for my app: multiple users have to be able to view and control the same remote desktop simultaneously using my application. Big problem:...

Can an Access application running on Terminal Server be accessed by logging in to a remote desktop via a web browser the same as an Access app running on Citrix can be or is it different to that? An example that I have seen of a database running on Citrix was excellent. Easy access to the remote desktop via a web page and not much speed penalty when running the database. Is there anything that will allow remote access to 2/3 users that...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
