Windows XP Pro vs XP Media Centre 2005

1 New Member
Hi,

need to have a new notebook and want to avoid Vista. XP pro is my favourite but hard to get on a notebook. I can get XP Media Centre 2005 but not interested in entertainment.

Is it possible to upgrade the Media Centre version to XP Pro as someone suggested?

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem when I bought my recent desktop. I bought from Dell who loaded XP Pro on the machine for a small extra cost.

You should be able to upgrade from Media to XP Pro but if you get Vista you have a problem.

Well, I would just go with the Vista. I have it, and it works great, as long as you have the right hardware. Since every major computer company manufacturer only has Vista on they're new computers, it will be very hard to find one that doesn't have it.

Get an HP laptop, they're the best. If you buy it online, you can customize it and get whatever you want for YOUR needs, instead of buying it from a store. Besides, you don't know if the store dropped it or something went wrong in the packaging.

One option is to obtain an XP pro install CD somehow, then do a clean install (i.e. completely remove media centre from your system, then install XP).

Another option is to pay extra to get XP pro on the computer when you buy it, as an upgrade (somebody already mentioned this I believe).

Another alternative is to just go with Vista anyway. Although by doing that, you are making it very hard to move back to XP if you are not impressed with the new OS.

I use this code to capture a screen in a regular VB 2005 windows app. It works great! I found the code in google. But when I create a windows service it does not capture the screen. It only captures a blank graphic. Does anyone know why it will not capture the current screen? Is something not available when running as a service? Thanks!!! Hi there I been making a media player in VB 2005 and I want to add a "Save As..." dialog box as people can save media files that are loaded into the Windows Media control. It should allow the user to choose the file extension, enter a file name. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Signing off, Swatmajor1

Hi, I want to get a video capture card for my PC, which runs both WinXP Pro SP3 and Vista Business SP1. Nearly all the video capture cards I see state they only run on Windows Media Centre Edition. Is this strictly true? Is there some software I can put onto XP that will provide the same services as MCE? Regards, Rob.

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
