am trying to design a network using Windows Server 2003 Active Directory

7 New Member
I am trying to design a network using Windows Server 2003 Active Directory infrastructure for the following company(below) and I was wondering if there was some sort of walk through available to help me throughout the design process, any suggestions will be welcomed.

The company Technical Computing has acquired a set of new offices with the option of taking over more at a future date. The company has been established as a private tuition organization (one to one at private residences) for a number of years, but has decided to set up a permanent training establishment for small group courses, one to one tuition, etc. Trainers are required to train “on site” and a portable resolution must be considered and thought out.

The company is setting up a website in order to promote themselves. This will require the installation and configuration of a Web Server.

In order to cope with the number of students signing up for the courses, the company is also setting up a specific server to handle the database of all the students and staff. This too will have to be installed and configured.

To begin with the company will be enrolling 30 students. There will be 5 members of staff, 2 technicians, and 1 receptionist. As mentioned above, there must be room for expansion.

Everyone will need access to the network to a varying degree.

All of the hardware is brand new, and must be chosen to suit the needs of the individuals. You will therefore have to configure machines for student use, staff use, and technicians’ use, as well as for the servers.

I see that you have already posted in the Networking Forum and posted here twice.

Cross forum posting is OK, to a degree. Double posting in a forum is a no-no.
Here are out Posting Guidelines to help you out.

Thanks for joining TheScripts.

Dear Team, I have set up a Windows Server 2003 on a laptop PC in order to experiment with Visual Studio .NET. On attempting to set up Active Directory, I get the message: "The wizard has detected that there are no valid IP addresses assigned to any of the network adapters for this computer. Please verify that the network cable is connected, and that a DHCP server is available or the

Is there any security reason why you cannot print to a network printer from ASP.NET under IIS6 on Windows 2003 server? I'm using ASP.NET code to print to a server print queue using PrintDocument.Print() (.NET framework v 1.1) I can print to a local printer plugged into LPT1 on the web server, but not to a network printer. The same printing code to a network printer works in a .NET web app when

We've implemented forms authentication with Active Directory. We're slowly working on converting our Crystal Reports' reports from a VB6 application into Crystal Reports for .NET in our ASP.NET application. So far, we've got 2 done but we have several more to go. Anyway, we've discovered something which is pretty irritating for our users. When they go to any of the Crystal Reports for .NET and view it, they can see it just fine. ...

Hi, I have ASP.NET application running on standalone (not part of the domain) Windows 2003. I use forms authentication for my application. The problem I have is that I need to create and read files on Windows domain network shared drives and also on shared via Samba Unix drives, which is equivalent to writing/reading to the workgroup computer. Please point, if possible, to detailed step by step description of what needs to be done. Thank...

Hi there, I am having trouble getting an ASP.NET web application to connect to another computer and passing the proper credentials and I hope someone can help me. I have a stand-alone Windows 2003 Server, ServerA, running as a Web Server that uses ASP.NET. The default.aspx file tries to access a file in a share on another computer, ServerB. ServerA and ServerB are on the same domain and are both running Windows 2003 Server.

We have an ASP.NET 2.0 web application running on a Windows 2003 domain controller. Part of that application needs to read and write files from and to a network share ( living on a MAC Xserveraid) on the same network segment. I mapped a drive on the server to that share. When mapping the drive, I could enter access credentials for the shares (an account from the Mac side that does not exist in the windows domain). Using Windows Explorer,...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
