hi,
is there any software to modify the bios settings from the operating system.

Yes but why would you need this? Is your bios locked?
Send us the model number of your Motherboard and we will assist.
If you need to reset the bios password, open the case and on the motherboard look for a clear cmos pin, switch it from the first two pins to the last two pins and restart the system, put the pins back to the original location and your bios will be reset.
Cyber.
I would also need to modify my BIOS from Windows...
The reason isn't password related : my ps2 port stopped working on my Asus K8V-X MoBo, and unfortunately legacy USB is disabled in the BIOS, hence no pre-Windows input, no safe mode, no getting into BIOS. I tried at least 5 ps2 keyboards old and new none worked so I got an USB one. Now I just need to be able to use it, the way things are now, if Windows break down I can't even reinstall without buying a new MoBo, which is silly. I'd need an utility that would let me enable legacy in the BIOS, I tried taking the battery out, and unfortunately it is off by default. I can't flash a new BIOS either since the utility involves me typing in DOS prompt at reboot.
Someone told me I should look into getting a copy of my BIOS and the proper BIOS modification utility, modify the copied BIOS to provide USB Legacy Support by default, write a custom Autoexec command with the proper switches, and reboot your machine from floppy. 2 things there, one I didn't find any such utility two doesn't rebooting from floppy means I have to type something?
I'm kinda looking hard into that one... If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them...
I have exactly the same problem as Towser.
I have an A8N32-SLI with a broken PS2 port so need to enable USB legacy support through the BIOS.
Anyone know of a Windows utility that enables BIOS modification or a way around this problem?
Cheers

Typically there are BIOS Updaters that you can download from your MoBo's manufacturer. These will allow you to upgrade to the latest version, and typically give you the ability to access the BIOS configuration at start up (usually by hitting the Delete key, or F2 on the firstest screen you see).
I know that Motoma.
But to use those updaters you have to be able to answer prompts at boot like you said. Remember we have NO INPUT at boot, so this would be an early retirement for our mobo since I can't see how we could get through the prompts. Thanks for the suggestion still but I will not try it, being afraid the pc would be stuck in an endless boot-prompt-reboot routine...
Actually with Abit you could flash the bios using windows (mine does, NF7-S)... I don't know about Asus though. What do they say on their website?
Try finding one of those fanatics forums where they hack into Bioses and stuff. Someone might be able to help you (by perhaps sending you a modded bios) and you might be able to flash using windows.
CMOS chips can be programmed from separate motherboards.

I would be careful with the BIO's update with this MB.. I have the same MB for my gaming PC.. Watch out for the BETA version if you are on the highest one now which I believe is Version 1604, Do NOT go past that version... The beta is very unstable and will cause you a hell of a headache I have written them in a request to take it off the site but being that they haven’t I am letting you know personally. And I have a high knowledge in this area... Also there beta has been up there sense the release of the MB and have not released a FULL version.. So I would only go to 1604 if not already.
Here is a link.. Our MB has a utility for updating as well and FLASHING on the MB CD. http://support.asus.com/download/dow...&model=A8N-SLI
And to answer the question..
To enable the USB legacy support.. I know for sure in the A8N-32 SLI is as simple as going into the BIOS befor PC boot... and Looking for it.. I have it enabled on mine... I do not use PS2... Only on old PC's like my server P3 haha..
However in most cases with Motherboards as long as it isnt by DELL or HP Gateway and so on... Most USB legacy supports can be found under ADVNACED in the BIOS.. If not I am unaware of a Windows tool that will allow you to set the option...
Just your BIOs under ADVANCED and take a looksee

I had to purchase an Adapter USB2 Connect CardBus adapter for my Compaq
Presario 2700T notebook (WinXP). I did this because the HP DVD Burner I
bought requires USB 2.0.
The USB 2.0 wasn't working and after talking to a tech support at Adaptec, I
found out that by going to Start>Run>msinfo32, I have too many items under
IRQ9 which is listed...
