Slow Startup

this happened about a week after i got my laptop. Its a Sony FS920.
It used to startup file. Nice and fast. Then, about a week later, before i was even able to go on the internet. the startup started taking forever. So i just put it in hibernate every time i want to turn it off. I tried everything i could find to speed it up. I removed a bunch of startup programs and switched the theme to windows clasic.
I took out all the effects and stuff (which i dont think affects startup, but anyways)

I have nothing left to do.
Can Anyone Help Me Out?

thanks

Another thing that affects it is items directly on the Desktop (ie - do you need stuff to sit on your desktop, or can you move them into 'my documents' and create a shortcut to them?), as well as your Quicklaunch. Check to see if those are visible, and remove as many as you can.

Was any software installed or uninstalled about the time it started to do this?

Just thought of another idea - how old is your hard drive? You should check the disk - my laptop started doing that right before my HD died...

On the quicklaunch - are those items on the left of the taskbar (near the 'start' button) or on the right (near the time)?

16 is a lot - I would delete the ones you don't use.

Where does it hang, on what screen?

Where does it seem to slow down - is it at the Windows splash screen (or where that is supposed to be), when you login, etc...?

Runnng python 2.2 on HP-UX, I get intermittant slow startup. Sometimes python starts up in a small fraction of a second, and sometimes takes 3-5 seconds. This applies to any script I run, or just typing 'python' at the prompt. I also observed something similar on Linux. Any ideas what would cause *intermittant* slow startup? -Mike

I've noticed that no matter which language I choose and no matter how small the application, it still takes about 3-5 seconds to start up compared to vb's 1-3 seconds startup on an average SMALL application. Is this because of the precaching factors in the .NET framework or is my machine so slow (1.6 GHz, yeah right) that it can't load it all fast enough. Also, understanding the .NET IDE and how much is involved, is there any way to speed...

I have an ASP.NET 2.0 app that takes about 17 seconds to load on first startup but then is very fast after that. As I understand it from some posts in June, this is caused by the loading of the App Domain. We have both Cold Fusion and ASP.NET apps on this server and the Cold Fusion apps do not display such slowness on their first start up of the day. Is there a way to improve the load times of ASP.NET apps? I'm having to justify to my boss...

Hi there, I figured out, for the first execution for any .NET-powered app such as VB.NET or C#, it takes 7-8 seconds to see main form of "any" application even the application consists of a single form and a button and only 32kb sized. The second execution(without rebooting machine) is done less than a second. This slowdown on startup doesn't occur on non-.NET-powered apps such as VB6, MFC or VC++ 6 applications. If an application is...

After installing SourceSafe integration with Access 2003, th database startup became very slow. My database is big, more than 10,000 objects or so. It seems Access/VSS attempts to refresh the Source Control status (the little lock icon next to each object), and it takes long time. Is there a way to disable this update process at start up? Any work around to get the database starts as fast as it used to be before the integration?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
