Win XP Terminal Services will not start on Media Center Edition

3 New Member
Cannot start Terminal Services. I am logged on as Administrator. The dependency RPC is started. The path to executable is "C:\WINDOWS\Sys tem32\svchost.e xe -k. netsvcs". Have run Kellys Korner Terminal Services fix with no luck.

Other symptoms are no Users are showing in Task Manager for any Applications or Processes and I am unable to install and run any program that requires Administrator installation.

Any help to resolve would be most appreciated.

After reading some discussions and some Help and Support topics, I am forming the opinion that Media Center Edition doesn't support these type of services (just like Home Edition doesn't support them). There is a hardware solution which allows up to 7 or 8 clients to share Home Edition that might work for you.

You may be right. I don't know if they are supported or not. It wouldn't concern be except that recently I can't install and execute programs requiring administrator privileges. When I started to look for what is different on my other computers, where I can install, I found this. If I could resolve the program installation/execution issue, I would be happy.

So, I suppose you can't even create a new account?

Windows XP Home edition and Media center have the same limitations. I suggest running XP Pro to run terminal services.

However you should be able to use remote desktop connection to connect to other computers and to your own. The limiting factor would be that only one user can be logged on to your windows xp media center machine.

I just got a Media Center machine. It connected up to my network after running the wizard. Have you tried the user name "Administra tor" with no password?

are you part of a domain? this may account for your reduced privileges. . .
try running net wiz as a networkless workstation. if it doesn't work, then unplug LAN, and reboot. that's an old college trick to elevate privilages, basically forcing local ownership.

Does this have all of the features of xp pro such as IIS, and other things required by asp.net developers or am I going to have to Install Windows XP Pro? Is there any list of what xp pro has that media center does not? Is media center based on xp pro or xp home? Thanks,

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
