In Vb shell is s function that is used to open any exe or batch file.
That is totally different from shell scripting.
Ya, in vb..Shell 'abc.txt','note pad.exe'
will open the text file in notepad.
Similarly you can open any file with any app.
But can anyone explain what shell scripting is?
please find al about shell scripts here @vdraceil
Yes..
Exactly what I wanted.
I will try with this.
But, I too don't have an idea about Shell Scripting.
But if you want to know about that, please go to this site; http://user.it.uu.se/~matkin/documents/shell/
This one I collected from Debasis ( One of the Bytes forum member)
Anyhow thanks for your reply.

I'm realizing I didn't frame my question well.
What's ***TOTALLY COMPELLING*** about Ruby over Python? What makes you jump
up in your chair and scream "Wow! Ruby has *that*? That is SO FRICKIN'
COOL!!! ***MAN*** that would save me a buttload of work and make my life
sooooo much easier!"
As opposed to minor differences of this feature here, that feature there.
Variations on style are of no interest to me. I'm coming at this from a...

I´m hoping I can get some help here, because I'm very lost. Don't know
Perl, I'm not a programmer. And this is something that has worked for
me earlier, only now it doesn't anymore.

Hi all,
I have a perl program which makes a user exit to the O/S (unix, solaris)
to issue a O/S command. I know that the shell it invokes is NOT a
korn shell, because I captured the shell info into a file with a
'ps' command. My question is "How to explicitly specify a Korn shell to
be used by perl?"
Eg of my perl code:

Note: There is considerable background detail here, but I do have
three questions, which are clearly marked and appear right before the
sample code.
I have a legitimate need to launch an EXE from an HTML page on Windows
XP/Internet Explorer. The EXE is already locally installed, and the
HTML page is also viewed locally on the PC- it's not a web site. I
know of two ways to do this, both of which are featured in the sample
HTML file at...

I'm trying to figure out why Popen captures the stderr of a specific
command when it runs through the shell but not without it. IOW:
cmd =
if 1: # this captures both stdout and stderr as expected
pipe = Popen(' '.join(cmd), shell=True, stderr=PIPE, stdout=PIPE)
else: # this captures only stdout
pipe = Popen(cmd, shell=False, stderr=PIPE, stdout=PIPE)
# this prints the empty string if not run through the shell

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
