I 'm following various posting in "comp.lang.ada, comp.lang.c++ , comp.realtime, comp.software-eng" groups regarding selection of a programming language of C, C++ or Ada for safety critical real-time applications. The majority of expert/people recommend Ada for safety critical real-time applications. I've many years of experience in C/C++ (and Delphi) but no Ada knowledge. May I ask if it is too difficult to move from C/C++ to Ada?...

I'm a js novice trying to teach myself. I'm using Flanagan's 'Javascript, the definitive guide' from O'Reilly as a text. But either I'm dopier than usual or its layout doesn't match my learning style very well, because I seem to be having a dreadful time getting to grips with even the simplest things. Currently, I'm trying to change the text that follows a <p> element in a little test program. My test program has a table with two <td>...

I've posted this in the middle of an older thread but it seems to have gone unnoticed. I apologize for repeating myself. We are converting an existing Access97 split database to an Access front end with a SQL Server back end so that its users, who live all over the state, can all use it without mailing the back end back and forth throughout the year. I am trying to set up the installation package with the ODE tools so that the users...

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with trapping the <BODY> onUnload() event in ASP.NET? The thing is, I'm writing code for an Intranet site. The code makes a call to a third-party component (think of it as a lock) when the page loads. Now the OK and Cancel server buttons I can handle and use to release the lock as required. But previously in classic ASP I had been trapping the user hitting the close 'x' button by...

Hello All, Some time ago, I implemented a data access layer that included a simple connectin pool. At the time, I did it all by myself: I created N connections, each connection associated with a worker thread that would execute the db commands. The pool was fixed and all the connections were created when the db access class was instantiated. The connections remained opened during the whole execution. If a connection was not available...

Keep in mind this is my first compiled SQL program Stored Procedure (SP), copied from a book by Frasier Visual C++.NET in Visual Studio 2005 (Chap12). So far, so theory, except for one bug (feature?) below. At some point I'm sure I'll be able to laugh about this, akin to forgeting a semi-colon in C/C++, but right now it's frustrating (time to sleep on it for a while). Problem-- For some reason I get the error when trying to save files...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
