At this moment I use MsAccess and i can build about every databound
application i want. Who knows about a serious open source alternative?
Because Windows will be a client platform for some time, i prefer a
solution that (also) supports Windows.
On the net I found a number of products that i looked at, but none of
them gave me the impression of a serious candidate at this moment
(KNoda, Gnome DB Manager, InterBase...).

Hi there,
I would like to retrieve of a secured database the Username and the group
that he / she belongs to, to apply access rights to some button click
events, which are accessing forms that the User Usergroup doesn't have
access to.
Any idea how I would go on about it??

When creating an msAccess db within the Access UI itself the fields that are
text are NOT padded with blanks. For example, if I have a 10 char field and
put in "HI" and then when I come back to the field and click my mouse on it
the cursor is just after the "I" in "HI"... that is, no blanks were added

new rows to an access database.
I have gotten this far:
a separate OleDbconnection to each source, which reads the entire data
source (select *) into the same dataset, but different tables.

I'm trying to use TransferDatabase to transfer tables from an external
secured DB to a database created in the code. I would like to kind of
use automation, although OpenCurrentDatabase apparantly can't be made
to work with secured databases. I saw a post where someone from MS
recommended GetObject.
My code below has two problems. I keep getting an unspecified error on
the GetObject line. So, I've temporarily used On Error Resume Next...

Hi,
I've got a table in MsAccess with 100+ fields.
If I fill a tabletable with this table , change some values , get the
update-command via commandbuilder , the update fails.
This because the commandbuilder adds a where clause that contains all
the fields in the datatable ( to check whether the record has been
changed since the fill ).
Because MSAccess does not allow more then 99 fields in the where
clause, the update fails offcourse.

Hello,
I have one simple query joining two tables with left outer join on 3
fields and using MIN on two fields. These two tables have lot of data
about 3 mil in total. I am trying to migrate db from MS Access to SQL
2005. I get about 689000 rows in SQL Server, vs 863000 rows in MS
Access.

I am working on an app with an Access2002 frontend and Sql2005
backend. I have to use integrated security. I want to prevent my users
from altering data in another way than via the frontend.
It looks to me that the mechanism to do it is the Sqlserver
sp_setapprole procedure. Works fine when programming directly to
Sqlserver, and also een Access Data Project at first sight seems to
work as it should via the call to the sp_setapprole proc....

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
