I've got an intranet application that presents a list of files in sort of a
'central repository' web page. Each file is an href in the form <a
href=file://server/share/path/filename.ext>.
When the user clicks on an excel file, it is opening within the browser,
which unforntuntely confuses the heck out of them because the usual
Print/Print Preview menu options are not available. I would like the user
to be presented with the typical...

I am attempting to write a javascript app that will open a second browser
window, load a url, such as www.google.com (foreign url) and perform a
<File-Save As> function on that window. I am able to do this with opening a
second window that loads a local file, but I get an Access Denied error when
I attempt this with a different website. Is there not a command in
javascript that will allow me to open a webpage and perform this function?

Has anyone found a way to open a file exclusively where it
will fail if the file is already open, i have tried the
following
_FileStream = new FileStream(@"C:\Data.txt",
FileMode.Open, FileAccess.ReadWrite, FileShare.None);
which does not prevent me from opening the file even if
another user has the file open ie Notepad, it will prevent
me from saving the file in notepad until i close the file
in the app. I can then save changes made in...

Hello,
I am trying to open a window containing an image and I would like
the image to be flush against the window -- i.e. have no padding or
border. Can I make this happen with a single call to a window.open
function? I would prefer not to create a separate HTML page. So far
all I have is the basic
var cwin = window.open('images/KJV-THANKS.gif',
'Thanks', 'width=243,height=420,');
cwin.focus();

I was wondering if you know a way to have, let's say, you
would click on a menu bar item (where something like
file, edit, format, help options are on Microsoft Word)
and instead of opening a dialog box it would "switch" to
another page (within the program) and maintain the same
menu bar as before.
For example, in Quicken I would click on "Finances"
then "Account List" and a new page would open under the
existing menu bar. It wouldn't...

Im trying to create a system service that will read some records within an
access file. From these values I will then be able to see if other software
in the system is up to date and install the new versions if they are not.
The problem im running into is that I can't get a connection to the file.
I keep on getting the error "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open
the file 'c:\DatabasesInfo.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively...

Hi,
I want to do something that I thought would be simple but i cant seem
to work it out, perhaps someone out there could help me.
I want to browse for a file (it will be a word document), save the file
name to a string and then at some later stage open that file with word.
The operating system will be windows 2000 (dont know if that makes a
difference or not).

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
