Some business applications define mission critical. You
just can't afford to have them go down. Ever.
Is 'always on' a realistic goal? Mark Bauhaus, VP, Java Web
Services, and Rich Sharples, Senior Product Manager for
Application Server, explore this possibility as they examine
examples of high availability and introduce Sun's approach

I've spent a lot of time using python, and personally, I feel like it is
vastly superior when compared to languages like java, and c++, but there
are still a few things that detract from its elegance and flexibility. I
thought I might mention a few of them. I'd like to hear what people think
of my complaints, and I also like to hear the complaints of others.
1. many keywords (eg:try/except) are strictly imperative, and cannot be
used in...

I was a java developer one year ago ,before i moved to python i realy liked
it at the beggining, but i got very disapointed lately since my
previus two python proyects where relatively big,and python didnt feel
well suited for the task.
The reasons are mainly due to the standard library, the language
performance was aceptable, but the library, in my opinion has several grave
issues:
-No naming convention. The speech of "it fits in my...

mysql 4.0.22 (win32)
Can anyone recommend best practices for the fastest way to remove large
numbers of rows at once?
I am diving my deletes into chunks (1000 rows at a time) but this still is
very slow.

Hi,
I have built an application using ASP.NET. I can compile and run this
application fine on a development machine, and on another development
machine.
I tried to then run the same application on yet another development machine
(were trying to get a new revision control system up and running on this
project) but the application always reports 'Could not load type' when we
try and run a page.

Hi All,
I have just discovered the dataset designer in Visual Studio 2005 and
really love it. It makes it a piece of cake to produce a DAL to the
DB. But I was wondering, when I create a table adapter I have to give
it the connection type. Ie SQLClient, ODBC etc. This mean that if I
want to change from say SQL to ODBC I will have to recreate the table
adapters as I can't just change the connection type as it brings up
loads of errors.

Hello Group!
I really tried hard for two hours to rewrite the following expression
(python 2.4):
--------------------------
teilnehmer =
for r in Reisen.select(AND(Reisen.q.RESVON <= datum, Reisen.q.RESBIS
for g in r.BUCHUNGEN:
for t in g.aktiveTeilnehmer:
teilnehmer.append(t)

I have public methods in a form. The main form calls them, to update
that form's display. This form is like a real-time view of data that
is changing.
But, the form may not exist (it is created / destroyed at user
request). I can check form != null to prevent incorrect access.
But, the form could disappear immediately after the check, before the
method is run. Or someone could click 'close' when it's in the middle
of an update. ...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
