Reusing the same application Instance

1 New Member
I have an app that sits down in the system tray. perodically doing things. users can click the icon in the tray and add files to send out. what i want to do is have a Windows Context Menu OR a Send To shortcut so a user can click on a file and "send it" to my RUNNING application. I know how to make a "send to" shortcut for a normal application, but i dont want to run more than one instance of the application and the application will start when the user logs in. I guess Windows Media Player is a good example of the functionallity i am trying to achieve. If WMP is already running when i double click a new media file, WMP just starts playing the file. i dont really need the file contents, just the file path. I have been trying to find a good DDE example, and im not even sure this is the correct/best way to do this. Im using vb6 as my dev enviroment. and im not using any .Net code for this project if i can help it. any ideas/ code examples would be appreciated.

Just an idea - probably more of a temporary workaround than a permanent solution, though.

You could set up your SendTo shortcut as usual, and in your app try something like
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. If App.PrevInstance Then
  2.   Somehow pass the data to the executing instance
  3.   End
  4. End If

Hello all, I'm pretty new to the Java newsgroups so I apologize for dropping this into several maybe offtopic groups. I'm sorry! So on to my problem... I've come to a point in our RMI application where I need to have server callbacks to the client RMI applications. I've used the technique where the client passes an UnicastRemoteObject of itself to a RMI server method that registers the clientinterface object in a Vector. Now when I do...

Is there any reason why you can't reuse a delegate object instance versus creating a new one each time? For example in the following scenario I have a DataPoints object with an array of DataPoint objects, each of these has a Changed event. My Client objects subscribe to some or all of the DataPoint Changed events. Client1 creates a new delegate instance for each DataPoint event subscribed to, while Client2 creates one delegate instance...

Hi, With languages like c# having namespaces, I was wondering what's the recommended practice for reusing source code. I'm not talking big stuff like log4net that's version controlled and usually distributed as binaries, just packages of a few classes. a typical small component will be distributed as open source with a copyright statement and will usually include a project file and use a namespace of the author's own choosing....

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
