Populating Row Source of Combo2 based on value from Combo1

5 New Member
User selects an item from (Combo box1). A value is passed to an unbound Combo box 2. I am trying to populate Combo box 2 (row source) based on the value passed from DAO recordset.

Private Sub cboEmployeeName s_AfterUpdate()

intEmpID = Me!cboEmployeeN ames.Value

Call PopulateEmploye esComboBox(Me)

Function PopulateEmploye esComboBox(objF orm As Form)

Dim db As Database, rec As Recordset

Set db = CurrentDb()
Set rec = db.OpenRecordse t("SELECT * FROM qryGeEmployeesB enefits WHERE fkBenf =" & intEmpID, dbOpenDynaset)

If rec.RecordCount = 0 Then

MsgBox "No Benefits!"
objForm.cboComb o2.Value = ""
Exit Function
Else

'Pass value to combo box 2 and populate rowsource

Do Until rec.EOF = True

intBenefitID = rec.Fields(0)
sBenefitName = rec.Fields(1)

or (neither the above or below syntax works)

objForm.cboComb o2.AddItem rec!(intBenefit ID)
objForm.cboComb o2.AddItem rec!(sBenefitNa me)

rec.MoveNext
Loop

End Function

Hi All Sorry for the confusing subject, but I'm hoping that you will be able to help. In very basic terms I want to emulate a <SELECT> HTML box in VB. All I want to do is display a title name in the drop-down list, but the actual value I use would be something else.

I need to fill a table with values. The table has about 6000 records but the records will not have the same value in this field. I thought I had figured out a way to do this easily but it is giving me an error. Object or provider is not capable of performing requested operation. Basicly I am choosing a department in a combo box(Combo1) and a charge number(Combo3) in the form. They are both unbound.

Hi, I have 2 listboxes. The first gets populated from the db as soon as the page loads. The second listbox get populated based on the user's selection from the first listbox. However, currently the code is such that with each selection there is a postback. We want to avoid it using filter and javascript. I am not using ADO.NET but adodbc and no datagrids or datasets (please don't tell me that i should as my boss clearly doesn't want...

I am populating a multiselect Listbox from a dataset, with the content of the listbox filled by one table, and the selections determined from another table. So far, I have been keeping the dataset a denormalized mirror of the database, but I'm not having much luck getting the selection logic down (I haven't found a 'hook' where I can access the listbox object as an object to set the listitem's selected property before it gets rendered).. ...

Trying to learn about manipulating collections of objects, and populating these objects dynamically from datasources. Could someone post a code sample that shows the following: Instantiating a collection object -- say, a dictionary. Populating that collection object with custom objects, say, Person. What I really want to see is how to populate the properties of those Person objects from a datasource: instantiate one Person, fill...

I'm looking for thoughts on the "correct" design for this problem (DotNet 2.0 - in winforms, but that's not so important). I've got two combo boxes (combo1 and combo2), both are populating via database calls (using a separate DB handler class). "combo1" contains a list of countries and is fairly static, it can be added to but no other external events cause a change in its population. "combo2" however is populated with a list of options...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
