Making a RichTextBox output a certain amount of characters per line.

2 New Member
Ok, I am wondering how do I set the amount of characters per line that a richtextbox will have. I have a save dialog code and i want to set the characters to 64 characters then goto another line and save it like that. Right now when it saves a line of text, say 128 characters, it puts it all in 1 line. I would like it to split the line into two lines in the output .rtf file.

' Create a SaveFileDialog to request a path and file name to save to.
Dim saveFile1 As New SaveFileDialog

' Initialize the SaveFileDialog to specify the RTF extension for the file.
saveFile1.Defau ltExt = "*.rtf"
saveFile1.Filte r = "RTF Files|*.rtf"

' Determine if the user selected a file name from the saveFileDialog.
If (saveFile1.Show Dialog() = System.Windows. Forms.DialogRes ult.OK) _
And (saveFile1.File Name.Length) > 0 Then

' Save the contents of the RichTextBox into the file.
RichTextBox1.Sa veFile(saveFile 1.FileName, _
RichTextBoxStre amType.PlainTex t)
End If

Hi, I have some difficulties when adding text to a (multiline)richtextbox, to change the color of that line only. Changing colors on parts of text you want, need to be selected to change color. So I need to create a code that selects the text I just added to the richtextbox for a very short period so the user doesn't notices.

Using a Richtextbox I use EM_SETZOOM to set a zoom factor. If I set it to 2 the image on the screen increase but not exactly by 2. I've coded a ruler above the Richtextbox which does scale by the correct amount. Could it be that the Richtextbox uses GDI while Dotnet uses GDI+ ? Can anyone shed any light at all on this?

I have the index of a line in the Lines array of a RichTextBox. I would like to have it scroll so that line displays at the top. Is there no way to do this? The only way I can see to make it scroll is with ScrollToCaret(). But I don't know how to set the "caret" to a particular line. Any suggestions? -Rachel

I'm having trouble reading quotations inside the richTextBox when a file is opened on to it. I've tried a couple different methods, most of them didn't compile. I came across one that does compile and supposedly it's suppose to work but it doesn't in my case. I tried this code to see if it would recognize the quotations. For testing purpose I wanted to see if it would start the string from the quotation. str =...

I know that this topic may inflame the "C language Taleban", but is there any prospect of some of the neat features of C++ getting incorporated in C? No I am not talking out the OO stuff. I am talking about the non-OO stuff, that seems to be handled much more elegantly in C++, as compared to C. For example new & delete, references, consts, declaring variables just before use etc. I am asking this question with a vested interest. I...

Hello, I have a multiline RichTextBox that I use for data logging. I'm concerned about how the AppendText method reacts when over time the maximum number of characters have been added. Do the oldest characters it contains start rolling off the top into the bit bucket, does it simply start silently ignoring appends until some characters, are deleted, or does some kind of exception get thrown? I've heard numerous opinions on what the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
