Need a little advise on VB and Macromedia Flash

HI all. I am a beginner with visual basic having had a couple college
courses is all. I am wanting to do some annimation with flash and
intergrate/include it in a visual basic application(not a web site). My
questions are, can VB or VB.net handle the annimations alone, how do i
intergrate the flash files into the VB app, will I have to include a web
browser in the app in order for FLASH to run? Will I have to include
Shockwave? I am wanting to annimate a piece of machinery running. I would
like for the user to be able to click on a particular part(for example a
gear) and that will start the gear turning(gear annimation). OR, if the user
clicks on a door the door opens...etc. Does anyone know if FLASH will do
this alone and can flash develope a standalone distributeable app? If anyone
knows of any sites, books, etc that deals with intergrating flash and VB

Last time I played with this the Flash player was an active X controll that
you embeded into the web page, thus you simply
Put the active player on the form.
