Knowing from VB6 when a file is completely trasferred

Hi folks. I'm running into a problem figuring out how to proceed with
the following. I have files being transferred from several machines
through a separate sftp (SSH) connection to a server. I need to have
a program running on my server, developed in VB6, that parses these
files and inserts them into a database. The problem I'm running
across is finding out the best way to see if the files have been
totally transferred, as I don't want to run a program on a file that
is still being transferred, as we all know, that can cause errors. I
took care of this problem before by sending a dummy file after the
real file has been transferred, and if the program detects the dummy
file, then it knows it can start procedures with the real file.
However, there has to be a better way to do this. Has anyone had to
deal with something like this before? If so, what solutions came
about?

Thanks for any help.

And once again, the simplist solution poses to be the best one.
Thanks. I'll have to ask my parents about any brain injuries when I
was a child.

Hi, I would like to create a menu where the menu options were taken from an XML file. The reason is that I would be able to update the xml file (by simply adding new child nodes) after I uploaded new web pages. Each page would run the same PHP script to create the menu. As the xml file would supply every page, this would mean less time taken up when adding new pages. Below is an example of the xml file content:

I have a requirement to record in a database when a file is finished downloading to the end-user. Currently when a user clicks a download icon for a file it directs to an ASP page that records the "hit" into a database, then I use a response.redirect "filename.exe" to point the user to the download. What I'm missing is knowing when the download is complete so I can update the database to show the file successfully completed its download....

I have an odd problem that I'm sure someone here can help me solve. I am using Python 2.3 on a Linux box to process text files. At one point in my automated process, I have to zip and ship the files over to a Windows server running a proprietary package to do some manipulation to the file. Problem is that I need to know when the process completes processing the file. Complicating matters is that this package names the output file using...

Hello. I am using databindings to bind my dataset to comboboxes, textboxes and labels. Some of my UI depends on knowing when the user changes the values, but I have some problems knowing when my dataset value is set in the controls. - SelectedIndexChanged event fires during the bind process, so I can't just use that - The binding don't seem to "kick in" until the tab page where the control

let's say I'm transferring a large file like 100MB over to a folder. The program detects when the file arrives. However, I can't figure out how to know when the file is totally transferred over. One unsuccessful method is to... dim fi as new fileinfo(newfile) fi.length returns the supposed size of the file. But it correctly

I'm trying to load and parse an xml file with XmlReader and have it completely IGNORE the DTD in the xml file. If I set "ValidationType = ValidationType.None" it STILL downloads the DTD even though it doesn't validate against it. I get an XmlException when I set "ProhibitDtd = true" because then no DTD is allowed in the doc. If I manually remove the DTD reference from the file then it works fine and does not download the DTD...

Hi, I've decided to write a little archiving program (something similar to a simple winZip) and I need a way to determine the number of bytes in a file. I'm using getc() to read chars from the file and I have a little loop that looks something like this: while(p = getc(file_pointer) != eof) { num_bytes++;

Hi all, I have enough experience with HTML/classic ASP to get by, and I'm trying to learn ASP.NET. Traditionally, I've taken the habit of breaking out extra-long CSS files into multiple, smaller ones, and referring to them in my HTML/ASP files on an as-needed basis. Essentially, I've organized things as: /default.asp

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
