Setting up an installer to install a VB app on an NT Server 4.0

Hi All

I've always hated the package & deployment installer that comes with VB 6
Enterprise, so I'm looking to use the Inno installer instead.

However my problems are as follows:

1) I have created a small app that to me only use the INET control and the
FileSystemObjec t reference. My idea was to package the app using the
standard pants package and then pull the files out that it packages for my
own installer. Is this an OK method?

2) Apart from the above controls that I have just mentioned, will I need to
package the VB run time file(s) for the NT 4.0 Server - Service Pack 5 (US)
PC that it is going on? Are there any problems or known pitfalls with me
installing my VB 6 enterprise UK app on this kind of machine? SQL Server
2000 UK seems to run on it fine.

3) Is the FileSystemObjec t just part of the usual run-time files? It
doesn't seem to have it's own control file like the INET.OCX does.

4) Does anybody have any examples on how to create an Inno script for this
type of thing for NT 4.0 SERVER? (long shot I know).

Many thanks.

Rgds

Laphan

I am using VS.NET 2003 and trying to deploy a service program(c++) to a Windows 2000 Server system. I have also written a small DLL (USSsetup.dll) that is used to start/stop the service using a custom action. This dll is apparently dependent on the MSVCP71.DLL and MSVCR71.DLL's as per the Detected Dependencies folder visible in the deployment project All this good except I am UNABLE to Retarget the output of the msm merge...

I have added a 'Textboxes (A)' to my UI installer project along with a custom action to pass the value back to a class I've written to override the void Install function. As long as the text is very simple everything is working just fine. I've tested it by writing the string out to a text file to test it. However, the trouble comes in when I use the textbox for what I really intended, a ADO.Net Connection String. The textbox is to...

I am not really sure what news group this should be posted to. It has to do with a visual studio install project for a c# application. We have noticed that if any of the files installed by the installer are moved or deleted that this automatically triggers the installer the next time the application is started. While this would appropriate if the file in question were an executable, the files are actually report files. Clients want to...

Hi, I'm trying to use a custom action to modify a database (rather than create one) using the VS.NET '03's help example called "Custom Action to Create Database During Installation". I've made two modifications to the sample in the document...both are in the "Protected Sub AddDBTable" (towards the bottom). I've changed ' Creates the database.

I'm doing an install for a proof-of-concept environment; the server I'm installing to is W2K Sp4. I have installed to several servers in this environment under the same project, all of which are W2K3. I used the same install binaries in each case. For all the W2K3 servers, the install proceeds without a hitch - but in the case of the W2K server, I'm being prompted for an install key. I

I created a windows service using VS 2005 in VB.NET and it runs on my Windows XP Pro machine just fine, now I'm want to install it on one of my servers which is a Windows 2000 Terminal server running sp4 version 5.00.2195. I also have .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 installed on this server AND the server was rebooted after the .NET Framework 2.0 was installed. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
