I know this is a crosspost, but I need to know which is the best one for posting INET FTP queries

I know this is a crosspost, but I need to know which is the best one for
posting INET FTP queries, so that I'm not cross-posting in future.

Now that I've posted could somebody let me know:

1) Why can I download Access DBs from FTP sites in the default mode
(icString??) and everything looks OK (eg, file/byte size, functionality,
etc), when MSDN shows a completely different method for binary downloads?

I thought Access DBs were binary files. Please confirm why and what is the
best method.

2) I'm downloading about 10 x Access DBs from various web sites on a daily
basis (for backup purposes) and even though everything is working fine at my
default setting of 1024 chunks - isn't this bottlenecking my ADSL 512K
connection and driving my HD unnecessarily crazy??

Problem is that if I increase this size to say 4096, it increases my chances
of not getting the exact file size and therefore my files are 200K instead
of the correct 196K.

How can I get round this - if there is a problem in the first place?

Many thanks everyone.

Once again apols for the initial cross-post.

Rgds

Laphan

Hi All Just wanted to know if anybody knows the answer to the following quick queries: 1) The reason I'm using VB's INET control is to download copies of Ms Access DBs on a range of web sites so that I have a backup. Found out from my ISP that if my DBs go up the spout then it's down to me to restore - gulp!!! I've created a little FTP gizmo where I could download web pages OK, but not

Hi All Using the INET control to extract data from web sites and was told that the user agent should really be spoofed to make it look like a browser, as search engines sometimes black list submitters who don't use browsers to submit. My queries are: 1) What header does the INET send to a web server?

Dear Microsoft: In your new ASP.NET 2.0 page model of being able to crosspost to another page, it would seem that if you were to type that word in Google, "crosspost" or "cross post", you will get endless amount of results from the newsgroup police complaining about posters cross posting to many newsgroups as this very message is doing. So to those at Microsoft, and since posting your form results to another page is very very...

Sorry, the prior message was multi-posted. Here's a cross-posted version. Please disregard the other one. Is there a way to create and encrypted database file? What do people do when data security is important at the file level? In other words, you don't want anyone to be able to take the database file (or files) and extract data from them.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
