at least I have the balls to complain about it

Vb6 is not dead yet.. we can _STILL_ use VB6 in more places than
VB.net

so i'm over it
at least I have the balls to stick up for my language

VB HAS BEEN GOOD AND FREE FOREVER.
IT IS CALLED MS OFFICE YOU FUCKING RETARD
AND THIS DOTNET CRAP DOESN"T WORK IN 3/4 OF THE PLACES THAT
VB6
WORKED
Whoa Mr. Hyde, MS-Office is not free, and comparing VBA to
VB6 is
like
comparing a Hugo to a Corvette.
I guess my comparison would make VB2005 a transit bus!
.net seems even less excepted in environments where it does
run
(or crawl,
belch and barf as the case may be)
After refreshing my hard drive when 3.0 came out, my XP stays
.net
free,
period!- Hide quoted text -

SQL Server 2005 supports Stored Procedures written in the CLR
language
of your choice: C#, VB.NET, J#, C++.NET, or any other .NET
language.
So what's your point?
And I'm running .NET applications on Windows 2000 just fine, with
no
performance problems whatsoever. As with any development
lifecycle,
you have to profile the application, and identify the slow
points, and
optimize them. It wouldn't matter what language, database, or
development platform you were working with.
.NET is far more secure, type-safe, and robust than VB6 *ever*
was. It
forces me to write higher quality code by paying attention to
what I'm
doing. VB6 produced an entire army of cowboy coders who are now,
to
put it bluntly, pissed off that Microsoft wants to encourage
folks to
write more secure, stable code using a development platform that
encourages secure, stable code.
As far as I'm concerned, it can go the way of the dodo. It's only
use
now is for maintaining legacy applications. We've gradually
ported
every VB6 application we had to .NET, and we've seen nothing but
improvements in performance, stability, and maintainability. I
can't
possibly see how that's a bad thing.- Hide quoted text -

I do know the difference between a job and a sproc, and I still
maintain that what you want to do can be accomplished. It's just a
matter of figuring it out.
Your credibility, and your usefulness as a reasonable debater on the
subject went down the tubes when you resorted to lowbrow
namecalling.
You don't know anything about me. Calling me a fag was uncalled for.
Calling ANYONE a fag is uncalled for, and speaks volumes about your

He's trolling. He does this a lot. Most of us have tried to argue with

only to eventually figure out he doesn't really want an answer, he
wants to
turn back time. So we've stopped responding to him.

Hello,

BogusID is NOT associated with susiedba, dbahooker, aaronkempf, larrylinson.
I'm also not sure about larrylinson, that one is not in my killfile ... yet.

I'm a VB developer fairly recent to the group, just learning who to try and
have dialog with, and who to killfile to preserve my time.

I'm not bad, just matter of fact.

Yes, I owned up to the fact that I accidentally grouped you in with
HeWhoShallNotBeNamed. Sorry about that.

Sometimes he uses larrylinson, sometimes larrylinsonjr. And now he's
posting as "Todos Menos [MSFT]" (or something like that) over in the C#
group. I guess he's trying to spread the annoyance around. ;-)

I think this is generally well known, at least amongst anyone hanging out
in the VB(.Net) group in the last 6 months or so.

AK usually posts as LarryLinsonJr, but started leaving the Jr off
periodically when we outed his aliases.

I'm fairly certain that none of us would confuse him with the real Larry
Linson, or assume that any of his posts are the real Larry Linson's posts.
If I was the real LL, I would consider some kind of legal action, because
it's not dissimilar from slander.

Robin S.
Mar 17 '07 #67
I technically post as 'Larry Linson Jr'

because I wish that I could go to my poppa and say 'dad; MDB has been
obsolete for 10 years-- stop conning people into USING it.

MDB is a friggin disease.

If MSFT stopped reading strategy off of a cracker jack box; then maybe
we could have a decent programming language _AND_ a decent database.

as it is; People like Tony and Larry and companies like MIcrosoft run
around; propping up these WORTHLESS ARCHITECTURES while killing a
SACRED COW.

why in the fuck would a company simulateously prop up MDB files--
they're obviously not reliable enough for _ANYTHING_ and meanwhile
kill off the worlds most popular programming langauge?

Well I am here to tell you kids-- Vb6 is alive and well; in a product
called 'Access Data Projects'
SQL Sever and Vb6; it's a much much simpler architecture

maybe if you kids stopped reinventing the wheel and embracing trendy
archtectures-- maybe you could get work done; concentrate on the
database side; and have some real tangible performance benefits.

as it is; VB.net is a failure because the framework isn't on ANY
desktops; and the IDE sucks balls.

if we wanted an 100mb clientside install; we might as well just use
the Access Runtime; I mean-- it's the same size as this .NET framework
_CRAP_

I didn't 'leave the Jr Off'

I subscribed to the group using groups.google.com at which time it
allowed me to use an alias for posting through groups.google.com

I'm just glad that google is strong and independent; I find it fucking
ridiculous that MIcrosoft attempts to censor my FREE SPEECH RIGHTS
it's a PUBLIC FUCKING SERVER GUYS
if your platform can't withstand serious debate; then maybe you
shouldn't be fighting for the .NET framework!!!!

and I just find it funny.. that you don't know the difference between
slander and libel.

a) MVPs are public figures, they have less of a right to privacy
b) they spread MISLEADING, INCORRECT INFORMATION for financial gain (I
mean; they obviously profit from reccomending MDB and being there
every week for the next 4 years; resolving crashs, hangs and version
control problems (again ADP; _HAS_ no version control problems))
c) they are at war with me; they have been taught by SATAN HIMSELF
(technically satans' minions on earth = Microsoft)
d) they use a campaign of FUD - Fear Uncertainity and Doubt in order
to combat my posts
e) their Mother Fucking precious MIcrosoft quashes free speech.
Mother fucking SCREW that company; if I have to kill kittens and
puppies in order to combat this scorge; I will be justified

For financial gain? Rubbish.

I'm ignoring the rest of your posting.

then why else would you be pushing an INFERIOR PRODUCT?
then why else would you be pushing an INFERIOR PRODUCT?
then why else would you be pushing an INFERIOR PRODUCT?

adp has scheduling, ETL, real wizards
Access has the linked table manager (which doesn't even update the
cnnstrings for sql passthroughs)

adp has enterprise development tools that are FREE
Access has the same old designer for the past 20 years

if you kids lost the training wheels; you could have a much much
better offering.

you wouldn't have pissed off customers.
you wouldn't have to hide behind a company that censors FREE SPEECH.

I haven't ever had a performance problem using ADP. I mean-- maybe
instead of selling us on a NEW LANGUAGE they should have sold us on a
DECENT DATABASE.

MDB is mother fucking crap dog.
I don't have performance problems. I am not compelled to move
everything to vb.net-- because I use a real database it's reliable,
steady and predictable

if your platform could beat ADP in price, performance, stability,
manageability, performance, extensibility-- _ANYTHING_ then maybe you
would have a point.

but as it is; MS killed VB6 and they're focused on saving MDB-- why
would they kill an extremely popular language; but still try to prop
up an obsolete database?

I think that MS should kill Excel, Access, Foxpro and START TAKING VB
SERIOUSLY AGAIN

we don't need THREE DIFFERENT NEWSGROUPS ABOUT VB
and we DEMAND public facing urls like 'microsoft.com/vb' to _WORK_
like they used to
