A nice sentiment, but... I've been working with Microsoft development tools
for more than 20 years. I've yet to see the slightest indication that
they've ever been influenced by this sort of thing. They own the market.
They produce what they want to.

I agree entirely. And the # of signees is not earth-shattering - it
needs a few more 0's on the end! But there's nothing to lose by
signing, IMO.

My main product has 75,000 lines of VBA code. As a one man shop, I am
simply not in the position to take at least 2 years off everything
else, learn the new technologies thoroughly, then rewrite & retest all
that code - and update the documentation!

The thrust of the petition is to try & ensure that "classic" VB[A]
stays usable for as long as possible. Then people can migrate in their
own timeframes. There must be millions & millions of lines of VBA code
out there. We will all be in for a big headache, if that code stops
working "any time soon"!

As Randy Harris said, it's probably a waste of time. But IMO, there's
nothing to lose by signing it.

Cheers,
TC

Eek gads, if it were left to you luddites then Access would be a DOS
program and implement a subset of GW-BASIC.

I hope this was said facetiously, Trevor.

FYI, a great many VB and other MVPs have signed the petition, even those
whose primary tools are now .NET-oriented, and some who don't even do VB or
VBA development.

The petition is asking for some redress to the abandonment of those
customers who have substantial investment in classic VB and VBA code. With a
little luck, some attention will be paid in influential circles in Redmond.

Not necessarily. You don't want to wait until Microsoft breaks the
legacy apps with newly released code, you want them to make sure the
new code accounts for the legacy apps before it leaves Microsoft.
The sooner you get MS's attention on the matter, the better chance
you have of them agreeing with your goal and choosing to code in a
way that maintains backward compatibility.

All that's left is Lame Larry and his 20 other identities, 10 of which are
queers.

Because somebody disagreed with you or because you're unable to spot a
bit of tounge in cheek if the author doesn't add the ":P" emoticon?

I'll take a stance similar to others in this group and say if you don't
like my responses then don't read 'em, your loss, not mine.

You obviously did not mean it tongue in cheek, or you would now be
apologising for not having made that clear.

I very much doubt that I will lose anything at all, by not reading your
responses.
