Is there really no way to turn the background compiler in VB.NET?

Hi there,

I've been given the task of migrating a large VB6 project to VB.NET
using VS 2005 but am finding that everytime I try and make a code
change, the CPU is grabbed and held for a few seconds. This is
incredibly frustrating. I've been led to believe that the cause of this
is likely to be the background compiler of VS 2005.

I would like to know if there is a way of switching this 'feature' off
or does anybody know of way around this because like all developers,
I'm working to a deadline but won't be finished until Xmas at this
rate...

Thanks in advance
Nicko

Ok thanks for that Ken...

I've migrated several small projects successfully but having looked
through the gorups, it seems doing this with anything large in VB.NET
is causing performance problems for many people.
