opening / modifying Excel spreadsheets in VB.Net

I would like the ability to open an Excel spreadsheet in
VB.NET and be able to read and modify the spreadsheet
programatically. I've seen bits of code here and there
for doing so in SQL or Excel VBA or C# but nothing
comprehensive and specific to VB.NET.

Any help anyone can provide to point me in the right
direction would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
