I am using Perl to parse a text file and output to another file. The text
file has data on Unix virtual memory (vmstat) and I want to delete lines
that I don't want and output lines that I want to a new file. The script I
have is giving me blank lines in the new file.

I have seven huge fixed width text file that I need to import to Access.
They contain headers, subtotals, etc. that are not needed. There is also
some corrupt data that we know about and can correct once the data is in
Access (or during the import process itself). Furthermore, the text files
are poorly set up, such that some records may be "shifted" over a few
characters, and therefore the fixed width nature of the file is corrupted.

Can someoneillustrate how I would open a text file that looks something
similar to this:
namea,8888,1234.99
nameb,8887,1242.50
and then after opening that file read each one of the values into an
array...namea and 8888 and 1234.99 would be three arrays

I need to create a text file that has the data from the 10 tables in
the database. The number of fields in the tables exceeds 255 and so I
cannot make a new table with all the fields and then export it into a
text file.
Is there any s/w out there I could use? I am not much of a programmer
but I heard I could use VBA to get this done. Any help with the code
will be appreciated.

Hi
I need to read in a large set of text files (9GB+ each) into a database
table based on fixed width lengths.
There are several ways to complete this, but I am wondering if anyone has
insight into the FASTEST way to read in the data and chop it up ahead of
posting it into the DB.
So far, things work, but they are far slower than expected.

I wrote a function which scans the current working directory and lists out details such as directory/file owner, permission etc. The output of this script can be viewing in the monitor when I give the command print_r which is printed out in a array format.

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
