I am building a client-server application. When the clients gets the data
from the server, the data is received as a byte array. The server works with
data in 2-dimentional arrays (recordsets received from SQL Server, could be
integers, float, string dates...) stored as the data type objects. So I need
to convert the arrays to bytes on the server, and then back to the orginal
2-dimensional array on the client side. What is the easiest/fastes way to do
this?

I think you might find something usefull in the
System.Runtime. Serialization namespace.
System.Bitconve rter might be able to help. You'll probably need a loop or two.

This is a basic question. What is the difference between casting and using
the Convert.ToXXX methods, from the standpoint of the compiler, in terms of
performance, and in other ways? e.g.
this.ContentID = (int)ci.Conid;
vs.
this.ContentID = Convert.ToInt32(ci.Conid);
I tend to use the latter form because it seems more descriptive to me, but
it would be good to know what's best practice. I'm guessing those methods
