Getting String from external socket

Hey Folks,

it's some years ago i wrote applications in VB respectively VB .NET
2003.

We have a java-application based on java-scokets. We try to connect to
the server, send up a string, let the server-app work and wait for a
server-response.

The VB-App connects correctly to the java-app in port 11111 on our
server, transfers an xml string which is parsed, processed and a
response-String is sent back to the client.

Everything works just perfectly, except one thing:

The server response is splitin two parts:

For instnce, if the server responds with "OK - commited 15 rows with 1
warning" we get two messags: One containing the "O" of the OK and
separetely the rest of the message.
My question is: WHY? Now I need to go in a loop to get all parts of
the response message. But I - theoretically - do not know when the
string ends. So just reading the stream once would do the trick.
But i did not find out yet how to "merge" the several strings on the
server- or clientside to represent one final string.

Maybe you got a nice hint for me, why the network stream seems to
split the string up in a one-char-string and the rest-string.

Thanks a lot in advance & kind regards form Hamburg/Germany

Hi, Currently, I am trying to get different service banner by connecting to different ports using python (code below). The versions I am working with are python 4.2.1 and fedora core 4. I am trying to reproduce a very small piece of nmap, since nmap has to get a port's banner in order to figure out the version. However, I haven't been entirely successful. *******************************************************

Hey everyone... Firstly let me tell you this is a project that is probably alittle over my head... I have played with programming most of my life, but I have only been doing VB 2005 for about 2 weeks. I know the concepts of most issues, but multi-threading seems to be giving me a headache... anyways here is what is happening... I have use the MSDN code sample to create a Async TCP server (using sockets, and beginaccept, etc, not Tcplistener...

I will let you know what exactly are we doing. This a socket program for tracking vehicle. The vehicle sends the signal through gprs+gsm mode, to our port.

I'm debugging an xmlrpc client/server application. Often when an exception occurs in the server, I receive only a very short error message on the client. For example: xmlrpclib.Fault: <Fault 1: "<type 'exceptions.AssertionError'>:"> Presumably this is because xmlrpclib on the server is catching the exception, and only sending the exception name to the client, not the server's stack trace.

I am posting two threads because I have two different problems, but both have the same background information. Common Background Information: I am trying to rebuild code for a working, commercially sold application with only partial build instructions. The previous maintainer of the code (a mixture of C and C++) is no longer with the company, but when he built the code he used MSVC++, and though I am not certain of the version he was ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
