Change Volume Serial Number

Hi all! I've posted a couple of times already today. Please forgive me
but you all have been so helpful and I'd like to lean on your
intelligence once again.

I would like to change the volume serial number of a drive with
VB.NET. Can this be done and if so, do you have the code for it? I am
aware that it can be done with utilities such as VolumeID from
Systernals (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...als/Utilities/
VolumeId.mspx) but I need to be able to control it myself from within
VB. Even a DLL (without the source) that I could instantiate and call
would work...though I prefer having the source of course.

Also, I would like to state that I am using this for my own personals
needs and I respectfully request I not be flamed for wanting to change
my user's Volume Serials on which other programs may rely, etc, etc as
that is not what I am doing. :) Also, I DO need to change the Volume
Serial for my project so suggestions of other methods besides this
will unfortunately not help me. Just covering the bases so as not to
watse your time. :)

Many thanks to all of you for your time and efforts!

Kindly,

Matthew

I am using the 'ManagementObject' to get the volume name of each drive on my PC. It works but it is a bottleneck. Is there an quicker way to get this information? I am using C# but am happy yo make API calls. I have tried the API call 'GetVolumeInformation' which returns the drive letter rather than the volume name and also another function (name forgotten) which returned a string that looked like it might be the volume 'unique'...

I'm writing a driver in Python for an old fashioned piece of serial equipment. Currently I'm using the USPP serial module. From what I can see all the serial modules seem to set the timeout when you open a serial port. This is not what I want to do. I need to change the timeout each time I do a "read" on the serial port, depending on which part of the protocol I've got to. Sometimes a return character is expected within half a second,...

Hi all! I'm sure many of you rolled your eyes at the subject trying to recall how many times youv'e heard this question. :) But bear with because I THINK my question is at least slightly different from the typical post. I would like to obtain the manufactuer's embedded serial number (NOT the volume serial that changes with each format) of USB drives. I found some very handy code to obtain a regular SMART-enabled IDE drive's information...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
