Hi there
I need to be able to programmatically set permissions on registry keys using
VB / VBScript / VBA. So far I have had a look at doing this using the
WScript.Shell object, API calls, and WMI but the only one of these that goes
any where near registry permissions is WMI and that is only to get the
permissions of a key (cannot set). I am also quite happy for the code to
call an external program to perform the task but can't seem to...

I get. I have no problem accessing the Reports.dll so it should not be a
security problem. I get the error when I try to run the class...

I need to programmatically get the list of users and/or groups related
to a specific registry keys permissions. I have successfully access
key values from the registry but I need a way to, programatically,
using C#, get the same list which is shown via the 'Permissions' in
'Group or user names' listbox when using the Registry Editor.
A code sample would be ideal or a reference to where I could find
information related to this problem. ...

Project:
----------------------------
I am creating a HTTPS File Transfer App using ASP.NET and C#. I am
utilizing ActiveDirectory and windows security to manage the
permissions. Why reinvent the wheel, right? Everything so far is
working well with the Active Directory. The problem I am having is
with adding File Permissions to a directory. I am currently using
some code courtesy of "Willy Denoyette "

hi all,
I thought I would give this back and see if anyone could improve on it. I
was working with the remote registry class. This code opens the
ScreenSaverIsSecure registry setting and changes it to not require a
password prompt anymore.
One change that would be helpful is to somehow figure out how to include an
IP address where the server name is called. I suspect it is a syntax I am
missing. This morning I was running it from...

I pride myself on being able to Google just about anything but...
I have fought, tried, searched and fought some more on this one.
I am using VMware, and am able to debug from Visual Studio to the VMware virtual machine...
Right up until the application being debugged tries to write to the registry. Then it fails due to lack of security permissions.
It writes to the Host PC registry just fine. This is only happening when remote...

I coded a windows service in Visual Studio 2005, I have the installer with it.
The registry keys for the service are created in System\controlset001\MyService.
The service is installed with LocalService account.
Problem is, after installing it, my service tries to add a key into that registry key location (intentionally added in the code), and it always fails because it does not have permissions, so I have to manually open the registry key...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
