SQL Server/ASP.NET Session State Management

I was able to configure and run an ASP.NET (V2 framework) application to use
state session data stored on a SQL Server 2000 server database per MS KB
311209 (Persistent SQL Server Session State Management) without issues.

In the application "web.config " file I'm using this for the connection
string:
<sessionState mode="SQLServer " sqlConnectionSt ring="Integrate d
Security=SSPI;d ata source=sqlserve r\instancename" />.

With this string the connection is established to the "ASPState" db in the
context of the web server "identity" (a user in SQL with dbo database
rights) so I don't have to specify a username or password as part of the
connection string.

However, I see that by default the SQL script "InstallPersist SqlState.sql"
sets up the "ASPState" database as accessible to all web applications that
utilize the above connection string.

Is there a way to somehow restrict the ASPState db, a store procedure,
etc... (or perhaps modify the sql scripts) so that only a specific
application can access this db for storing the ASP session data instead of
being globally accessible?

This is regarding the session management using Out of proc session management(SQL SERVER). Among the samples below which one is better to set the session? 1. There are 20 session variables and all of them are being stored into session and accessed from session and individual session object. Example: Session = "XYZ", Session=100, Session="NAME", etc.

Hi, We're thinking of moving session from inproc to a state server. My question is: should we expect a difference in performance? Is it noticeable? Steven - - -

Hello I work on a website where we have 3 servers running one site so we use the SQLServer option for state management. We are using the persistent ASPState database. All 3 of our webservers are Win2K3 and up-to-date. Our SQL Server is up-to-date as well. We have been getting weird site-hanging issues lately which seem to be related to the state management. Whenever the site starts hanging we will receive an application error with a...

Hi All, We have an application that uses SQL Server 2000 for State Management data. We previously use to build and deploy this application using ASP.NET Beta 2 version. Now we are using ASP.NET RTM version. With that, we are able to build & deploy the application successfully. But it gives us the error "The Session State information is valid or might be corrupted." while retrieving data from SQL Server. We can see the data stored...

Hi! Is it correct/safe to define a connection pool in the string "sqlConnectionString" of the "sessionState" section of Web.config? - The application is developed using AspNet 1.1 in a Windows Server 2003. - The AspState DB is defined in a Sql Server 2000 DB on another server. I have added this definition to the Web.config file: <sessionState mode="SQLServer"

When a user opens a new IE browser window using File-New-Window the integrity of an application which relies on session state is COMPLETELY undermined. Anyone who overlooks the fact that File-New-Window creates an instance of IE in the same process with the same SessionID as the parent window is in big trouble. This fundamentally restricts the usefullness of using session state management. I probably missed it somewhere - can...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
