Need an example of VB.net 2005 / ADO.Net /OLEdb to do this simple task

Hi All,

I'm still fighting this ADO.net situation. Seems like all examples are
a mixture of Classic ADO, ADO.net 1.1, ADO.net 2.0 and its all
confusing me. I'm using VB.net 2005 and ADO.net 2.0. Currrently
using Access as the database but will be upgrading to MSDE or SQL
Server in the future.

Here's the situation:

I have an Access database that has several tables. Each day
transactions are loaded into a table (BIData). I have a status field
in that record (0 if not processed, 1 if processed). I want to select
un-processed records from the BIData table, update another table
(PurOrd) with data in the BIData table, and finally update the status
field in the BIData table. Simple, eh! Well not for me.

I want to use Oledb because if I change to SQL server I understand
that it requires only minor changes to the connection, and commands,
etc.

I have not bound the data to a datagrid since I don't have the need to
see the data, but on second thought maybe an invisible grid might give
me control of the rows that I seem to lack.

In the past I used recordsets. What do I use now?

Any Books or Internet examples in VB.net 2005/ADO.net 2.0 that
describe at this level?

What's the best way to accomplish this task? Coding examples welcome!

Thanks,

Hexman

I am very frustrated due to this exception error I am receiving. I've tried searching numerous user support groups, Microsoft Support Net, Google, etc. and haven't found exactly my situation. Hopefully someone here can help. I am just learning VB.NET and purchased the SAM's "Teach Yourself VB.NET 2003 in 21 days' book. I am trying to connect to an Access database I created locally on my computer per Chapter 16. I originally had it on a...

I am trying to call a mainframe cobol DB2 Stored Procedure from an SSIS 2005 SQL Task in BIDS. I believe that privileges and the number of parameters (6) are fine. I've tried casting and still have no luck. The error is SQL0440N. I am running with DB2 Client 8.2.4. The sql call in BIDS looks like... call ODW.ODWCY002 ('TN',cast '43','04/20/2006',0,' ',' ') the linkage section in the cobol sp looks like... 01 LK01-ODW-ST-CD...

I upgraded from VB 2003 to VB 2005. I have a 4000 record table in Access that I'm using oleDB to do a data adapter fill to a Data Grid. In VB.2003 it takes 2-3 seconds to load the data grid in vb 2005 it takes aroudn 20 seconds. IS there something that could be causing this problem?

Hello everybody, I am new programming in asp.net, recently I have been hired in a company and they were creating a simple application, this application is developed in asp.net 2 visual Studio 2005 and is tested in a Windows 2003 standard. My problem is that when I check some buttons events, they are calling a Msgbox function, I have read that that is incorrect, but I have tried to change it for a java Script messagebox and even though I...

I have a strange problem that I think deals with security on SQL 2005. I have a scheduled task that runs on a Windows 2000 machine. It calls a vb script which creates a connection to SQL Server. We migrated a database from SQL 2000 to 2005 which is on a different box. I changed the connection in the vb script to use the new sql server. The original connection to SQL 2000 used the 'sa' account coded into the connection string , which...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
