I'm borrowing some code from Pavel's Command Prompt Explorer Bar installer
to use in my own explorer bar's installer.
Recently I've been thinking that using an assembly version like "1.0.*"
(hence, for example, "1.0.1304.25935") would be useful, at least for
development and debugging purposes. (Someone please point out the cons to
this idea!)
Well, anyway, Pavel's installer basically exists to register the assembly,
and unregister the...

I'm working with VS.NET 2003 and .NET 1.1 (not SP1) on Windows XP SP1. My
application is using the Windows Installer Bootstrap. (I may have also
installed a module which detects requirements (.NET 1.1 -> MsiNetAssembly
Support.) I have a few issues and questions regarding the MSI and its
properties.
* This may be my biggest annoyance at the moment. When the installer creates
the target directory, it's setting them as read-only. When the...

I'm having some inconsistency problems with my deployment project ("Setup")
and its custom actions ("Installer"). I'm using Visual Studio .NET 2003
(.NET 1.1, no service pack) on Windows XPSP1.
My main project is a band object (Explorer Bar) in an assembly (.DLL) that
needs to be registered on installation and unregisted on uninstallation. In
addition, during installation, Setup creates registry subkeys, sets registry
values, installs...

I have added a 'Textboxes (A)' to my UI installer project along with a
custom action to pass the value back to a class I've written to override the
void Install function. As long as the text is very simple everything is
working just fine. I've tested it by writing the string out to a text file
to test it.
However, the trouble comes in when I use the textbox for what I really
intended, a ADO.Net Connection String. The textbox is to...

When it rains, it pours.
I have an installer I built within VS, and when you click install within the
IDE, it unistalls the previous version for you, very conventient, but it
means that alot happens that I don't know or understand. Today I got an
error when it tried to un/install my package, saying it was missing my
install DLL. Now, TBH, I really fumbled my way through the whole
installation building process. It seems that deploying...

I have a COM object built in C#. Its a an IE deskband. It implements
the following method:
public static void Register( Type t )
Which gets called when regasm is used and it makes teh appropriate
entries into the registry. Works great.
Now I am trying to build a installer for this using VS 2005. I did the

I have an application that installs some 64-bit binaries for development use
in Visual Studio 2005. As such I want them to appear in the .Net References
menu when someone attempts to "Add References" to their project.
Doing this means (normally) writing to the registry key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NetFramework\v2.0.50727\AssemblyFoldersEx\MyNewBinaries,
with a default string value of C:\Program Files\MyBinaries.

I'm currently looking at the access developer extensions for creating an MSI
installer package for a 2007 runtime app. Couple of observations and
questions.
1) Doesn't look like we have the ability to set a packaged file to always
overwrite, or never overwrite, unless I'm missing something. This could be a
sticking point, as I would always want the program to overwrite on
re-installing, but NEVER the back end database. I have a few more...

Hi All,
I'm having trouble deploying a Windows Service installer (.NET 1.1) onto
some machines. It gets half way through the installer and gives me a dialog
box saying "Access Is Denied". When I click OK it does a rollback on the
install. The exact same installer has worked on both XP and Windows Server
2003 machines. It seems to have a problem on Small Business Server standard.
I am logged on as Administrator with Administrator...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
