I need to use the "System.Management" class to make a
program using the WMI, in VB.NET.
I tried "Imports System.Management", but I get a syntax
error that says: Cannot find class. I need to use this
class in my Windows Application. Is there any way that I
can refrence it into my application?
I am using Visual Studio .NET 2003 on Windows XP
with .NET Framework Ver. 1.1.4322

I've got a VB.NET windows application (written in VS .NET 2003) that makes a
call to WMI for retrieving the MAC Address from the client's PC. It works on
4 out of the 5 PC's tested so far. All the workstations are DELLs running XP
SP1a with the 1.1 .NET Framework. The following line of code generates an
exception on the one PC:

I'm looking into writing a small application to interface with WMI, and
downloaded the Express Edition Beta of Visual Basic 2005 to see how
feasible it is. I've learnt so far that I need access to the
System.Management namespace. In my sample application I can't import
this however, VB 2005 reports:

.NET Framework (Hotfix) whatever that means...lol.
Office 2003 which I just checked....upto date.
I am writing a small VB.NET that should be using some functionality in the
System.Management namespace (per MSDN), but Visual Studio can't find the
namespace.

error? I've created a class for Win32_BIOS with mgmtclassgen
Win32_BIOS /L VB, added the file to my VB.NET project and tried calling
a property with the following code in a button_click event:

I am getting this error: Type 'System.Management.ManagementClass' is not
defined. The statement is:
Dim diskClass As New System.Management.ManagementClass("Win32_LogicalDisk")
According to the help file, this 'System.Management.ManagementClass' is
under System.Object, so I put in the
Imports System.Object
in namespace, but that seems not to help.

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
