Cannot Start VB.NET Service

Hi All,
Looking for a bit of help here. I have a VB.NET application that runs
as a service on a W2003 Server, well that sometimes runs as a service.
If I start the service while connected to the server via remote
desktop, the service starts successfully and all is hunky dory.
However, if I logon directly to the server as the same user, I get the
message:
"The <service> service on Local Computer started and then stopped.
Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for
example, the performance logs and alerts service"
The service does have work to do as it should enter a main loop which
processes continually (as it happens when connected via remote
desktop).
When stepping through the the code, it successfully creates a new
instance of the service:
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceP rocess.ServiceB ase()
{New MyService}
But when attempting to actually run this service:
System.ServiceP rocess.ServiceB ase.Run(Service sToRun)
it just displays an empty message box with the title "Windows Service
Start Failure".
I have put in a Try\Catch but no error is returned.
I think it must have something to do with permissions if it starts
successfully through a remote desktop connection, but then I am using
the same user for both... I am at a loss!
Anyone got any ideas? I'll be forever grateful.

Hello. I am able to succesfully build and install my VB.Net Windows Service, using the Command Line InstallUtil #EXE PATH#. However, when I press start in MMC, to start the service, I get this error message: Could not start the #SERVICENAME# Service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.

We created a Windows Service with C#. The service will start OK on computers that are a member of a domain, but when we try to start it on a server that is configured for a workgroup we get the following error in the event log: Event ID: 7001 Description: The {Service Name}service depends on the Net Logon service which failed to start because of the following error: The service has returned a service-specific error code.

I have the simple Hello World web service running in debug mode on my development machine (XP Pro SP2). I'm using VS2005. I'm able to access it from my machine. When I try to access it from another machine (also XP pro SP2), using the URL: "http://nav:24035/WebServ/Service.asmx?op=HelloWorld", I get a "Cannot find server or DNS Error" error. There is no firewall on either machine. Windows firewalls are disabled. I'm able to access this...

Folks, I have to design the WSDL files of a bunch of XML Web Services. But, unfortunately, I am not very keen on writing the WSDL file line by line, and moreover be aware of the whole standard specification in details. I will be very happy if there is a visual tool, which can do this for me. Does anyone know such kind of tool (if it is free, this is going to be awesome)? Thanks in advance. Regards,

I have a problem that looks like it has not been discussed before in these groups. I have a simple SQLAgent job that runs sp_who (could be anything, but let's just say sp_who for this example). I have set the jobstep to write to an output file "T:\out.txt". If the job is owned by an admin, it runs fine and writes the output file. If it is owned by a non-admin user, it gets the following error msg: Warning: cannot write logfile...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
