VB.NET: VS 2005 IDE: Find (Ctrl-F) extremely slow in specific cases?!?

I have a 9,000-line usercontrol. Sometimes when I hit Ctrl-F, it takes
a long time before the Find/Replace dialog pops up. And when it
appears, it is not very responsive.

After some trial and error I think I have found some method to the
madness:

If the cursor is placed outside any methods or functions (i.e. in the
declarations area), there are no problems.

If the cursor is on a line near the end of a method or function, no
problems either.

If the cursor is anywhere in a method or function located at the
end of the document, still no problems.

BUT: If the cursor is on a line near the start of a big method or
function located at the top of the document (in this case a
9,000-line usercontrol), it takes quite a few seconds for the
dialog to appear - and it is painfully slow to work with.

At least now I know how to avoid it, but the question is:

Is this correctly observed? And is there anything I can do
to fix it so I do not have to think about where I put the cursor
every time I invoke the Find/Replace dialog?

TIA,

Joergen Bech

I am maintaining an application that was writting in VB6 and has VBA 6.2 integrated into it. The VBA SDK allows the users of the application to generate VBA projects and scripts to gain access to the application and perform product specific functions. This provides maximum flexiability for our users. We are about to convert this application into .NET. In doing some proof of concepts, we were able to integrate VBA 6.4 into a .NET...

Dear Friends, i have had a preview of the new VS.NET 2005 version that has showed to me a lot of improvment in C# and VB language. But i have notice that the VB's IDE is better than C#'s IDE. Could someone explain to me why ? Are VB programmers more lazy (or stupid) than C# programmers and needs more help?? Or are C# programmers has been ignore as developers so is stupid to give them a valid IDE ??? If the IDE is one and only one...

Hi all, Is there any chance that single-procedure view in the IDE will make a return in the 2005 update ?? From my brief experience with VB6, I found this feature made a huge difference in terms of code legibility. When I got 2003 I couldn't believe they removed this wonderful feature :( According to an article I read on MS's site, the collapsing feature of 2003

We have a very large code base and use the partitioned solution model for development and deployment. The problem is that in .NET 2005 the setup projects cause severe performance problems when working with the master build solution in the .NET IDE. Currently we have about 300 projects with another 150+ going to production in the coming months. The build server we use is a Windows 2003 server with quad Intel Xeon processors and 2GB...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
