The intent of my web service is an RSS feed from a blog. Originally I
used a StringBuilder to make the XML and returned a string from the
webmethod. But this doesn't display properly in IE. So now I'm trying
an XmlTextWriter instead.
I whipped-up another webservice based on this:

I have an web service method that accept an xml document and returns a
different xml document.
Based on the input xml I fill a dataset with information from a database.
If the dataset has rows then I need to return those rows to the consumer.
I can't tell if the consumer of the web service will use .Net or maybe java.

Hi! I'm maybe from old school but, for me, whebn it's time to call a method
from DCOM, remoting or web service returning a
string or anything else I use a function. It's more verbose.
In my new company, much of my coworker works with Public sub ( byval Itemx
as integer, byref returnCode as Integer).
I don't understand why they use this kind of sub and i'm wondering if this
kind of sub take more time to response?

I don't get it. A DataTable can't be returned, but a DataSet can. Yet a
DataSet contains one or more DataTables. So obviously a DataTable must be
serializable. So why not just let me return a DataTable?

I have a web service that I call from a winforms application. This web service can be cancelled, or completed,and then will call back the win forms application with a response (i.e. e.Complete == true etc).
This functionality is provided in the VS2005 tools for writing the web service (WCF) so the method called is <MethodName>Async(); which fires off <methodName>Completed event when it is done.
