Hi,
Still in the design process of a Windows 2003 web server with a SQL backend.
Expecting to have about 2000 visitors a day accessing lists and search
queries on a 200-300 MB db. This server will be collocated in a datacenter.
I have a few scenarios that I would appreciate in getting some
comments/criticism on:
Scenario 1:
Box 1, SBS 2003 Premium (with SQL 2000), 2GB RAM, Raid 5 HD

I've been developing and selling Access based database products for
years, and this group has always been a great resource to me. Now I
find myself releasing a new Active-X based on some of my code that
I've been using for years; and I would like to know what the group
thinks of the idea...
I have put together a ocx control that allows applications to "phone
home"; it sends the developer usage information from anyone using the...

I tried to add the "Microsoft Common Dialog Control, version 6.0" (also
known as COMDLG32.OCX) to an Access97 application I am developing and
received error "You Don't Have a License to use this ActiveX Control".
I Googled around and the closest thing I could find only applies to
Microsoft Office 97 Developer Edition (which I am not using):

I am attempting to convert an asp file to a asp.net file using C#.
The original file has an ActiveX control which is contained in a cab file.
The cab file contains the .ocx file which connects to a socket and transfers
client info to a server, as well as several .dlls
The cab file also references another cab file which contains files to
install on the client machine in case they do not have VBRuntime6 installed
on their machine.

Short Version of Question:
Can anyone provide an example of how I should embed the ActiveX and license,
and then use it in a function?

Hi all.
I consider to let a client have a test version of some of
my software. If the software turns out to do what it is
supposed to do, I would like to protect it from being
distributed, e.g. by using hardware keys. The software
in question is written in C++.
1) How does one use hardware keys to protect programs?
That is, what voodoo is involved from the programming POV.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
