VS just jams outa no where when working with VB projects

has anyone ever had this happen?

I am using VS.NET 2003, and i'll open a form or click on a random object in
a form and the whole thing will just lock up and not do anything for a long
time with sometimes 0% process usage and some other times 100% process
usage... it's driving me nuts today, I've had to do an end process to Visual
Studio about 22 times today and almost every time i lost data I just
recently entered into the system (code or resources).. getting very annoying
to me.... I'm also using .NET 1.1 SP1 as my framework, not the standard 1.1
RTM

Perhaps not helpful but I have been using vs.net 2003 for over a year on my
laptop. I also have framework version 1.1.4322 SP1. I don't particularly
remember having a single lockup, except due to my bad coding :-). Is it
possible to try a re-install?

this is the 3rd system reinstall so far on this system... it works perfectly
fine on other systems... (the project is shared through source safe and has
about 33 projects in the solution's build)

Brian,

Just to concurr with you that your not crazy. have problems with my VS.NET
as well and I am fully up to date and patched. Ghost errors that go away
with reboots, hard lockups, etc. It seems to me to be more of the longer
VS.NET runs the more often it happens. Shutting down VS.NET and restarting
does not seem to correct the problems. Reboot often to avoid most of these
problems. In my development shop it seems to only be the Win2000 pro guys
that have this problem. The guys running Win XP Pro do not see this
problem. That may help you if you can change OSes.

I think I figured it out... I have an installer project also in my solution
that compiles with the whole thing that has a LOT of dependancies and 30
project outputs in them. If I remove that project from the solution
everything works really fast and just like it should! If i add it in,
loading the solution takes forever (2-3minutes to load) and those jams
happen randomly... take it out loading the solution takes 15 seconds to
complete and not one single jam after that... wierd huh?..

I know this seems like a noob question, but... Our group is working on a development server (Win2K Server, IIS 5.0) in which we are all Administors. On this server, we set up our projects by first creating the appropriate folder on Under C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\<ProjectName>. Then we create a virtual directory in IIS pointing to that folder. Then we create a new project on our own machines (Win2K) using FrontPage Extensions. For each of...

I'm working on a solution containing about 20 projects. Some of the projects contain class definitions that are used in other of the projects. Most of the time intellisense is working ok, i.e. if I work with objects declared from my own classes intellisense will show me all alternatives (methods and properties from my classes and from the classes they are derived from). But sometimes I will get nothing from intellisense, completely nothing,...

Raise your hand if you think the best technology wins! For those of you with your hands in the air, tell me: if Python is so good, why has PHP achieved such greater adoption and mindshare? Why do web scripters still cling to their Perl, even in corporate environments? Why hasn't Python made inroads against Java? Why is Ruby, and Ruby on Rails, getting such strong play? Are these better programming languages, or is it other factors? ...

I can hardly believe I'm the first one to report this, but having gone through the newsgroup, it appears that way. I would like to open a solution in the VS.NET IDE that consists of multiple DLLs and a test application (an .EXE). The .EXE is my startup application. All the DLLs are shared components. This means that they contain a key and are stored in the GAC. When I go to run the test application in the IDE, it will not execute...

Looking for your highly subjective opinions (from those of you who have been working extensively with VS 2005). I have a client that needs/wants a complete rewrite of an existing application. I will be proposing a .NET Windows application with a supporting SQL Server database. It will likely take 4-5 months before we roll out the first production version. Because of the apparent issues with VS 2005 (poor performance, unpredictable and...

VB2005 Express. I am developing a solution that involves a windows forms application and a number of class library projects (DLLs). Some of the DLLs require extra data files or third party dlls. I can include additional non-source files in my projects, but these are not always automatically included when I publish the application. It seems that files included in the main application project are included, but any files that I add to other...

I'm an experienced web developer - but haven't used master pages much. I find that I'm not really comfortable with them - so perhaps I'm missing something..... When I first read about them I was shocked that the content placeholder pages need knowledge of which master page they were in - I'm happier now I understand they can be set dynamically - but I still can't help thinking that they provide nothing on top of a reasonable...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
