Timer not working with Windows Service

Used VS2005 to create a windows service and I can't make a timer trigger the
tick/elapsed event.

On the form viewer I dragged a timer from the components section of the
toolbar, enabled it but the tick event does not fire!

I tried this other method but the elapsed event does not fire.
----------
Private WithEvents MyTmr As New System.Timers.T imer(1000)
Private Sub MyTmr_Elapsed(B yVal sender As Object, ByVal e As
System.Timers.E lapsedEventArgs ) Handles MyTmr.Elapsed
LogEvent() '< Never happen
End Sub
----------

Anyone has an idea of what might be wrong?

What does your OnStart/OnStop event look like?

You should be (from what I remember it's been a while since I used the
timer) doing something like MyTmr.Start in the OnStart and MyTmr.Stop in
the OnStop...

Otherwise how does the timer know when to start.

Hi all, I have developed a windows service using the windows service project template in VS.NET. I have used three controls in the service, a timer, performance counter and a message queue control. The service will "sleep" for 'n' seconds using the timer control and whenever the timer_elapsed event occurs, I use the performance counter object to determine availability of few resources. Based on the availability of resources, I use the...

Hi all, I have developed a vb.net console application which will run some code every seconds. To get this working I used a timer "System.Timers". When I start my console application it exits within a second. So I added the line: "Console.Read()". Everything seemes to run fine but after a few days the application stopped. Without an error. I think it has something to do with the lifetime of the "Console.Read()". Is this right?

I have a class that instantiates two Timer objects that fire at different intervals. My class can be instantiated within a Windows Form or from a Windows Service. Actions performed by one of the event handlers may take longer than the interval for either of the timers, so it's possible for multiple events to fire "simultaneously" and for events to queue up. I'm attempting to get the timers to sync on some reference type object, or use...

I have a .net service that runs a System.Threading.Timer. The delegate points to the function that the service should execute when the timer elapses. Problem: The timer is not ticking. I have never used this timer. I used the documentation from Microsoft as a guide, but I cannot get this timer to work. Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String) Dim myTimer As New TimerState()

I have just put together a vb.net app and now need to provide it to users. This application needs to run the code in a sub every 60 seconds from a Windows Service application. I have the functionality of the sub working fine but I cannot figure out how to run the timer. The sub DoSomethingHere() needs to run every 60 seconds. It doesn't need to change the interval or anything like that. It just needs to run every 60 seconds as long as...

Sometimes happen that the service don't do his works. I stop the service and watching the log i note thath the timer...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
