icon/image/bitmap alpha control?

Reference the visual basic power pack:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en...bpowerpack.asp

I have been using win32 SHGetFileInfoW to get icons for my
"FileViewer " & "FolderView er" as is done in the power pack code. What
is unusual is that the icons are much darker than normal. You can see
this in the folder icons of figure 7 on the web page - sort of a black
lining.

1) How do you get icons that look like those that windows shows?
Should I be using a different win32 function? Is there some "alpha"
contrast level control somewhere?

2) Also when selecting, and say copying, a file the icon contrast
changes in WIndows Explorer - it washes out. How would one go about
doing that? A method in ListView? A method in ImageList? Manually
change the alpha value of each pixel?
Thanks for you time...

Hello The icons with the alpha channel are supported in WindowsXP. If use the System.Drawing.Bitmap.ToBitmap on the icon handle(ico.ToBitmap), the alpha channel won't be preserved, resulting in an ugly black border where the alpha area. But if the icons with the alpha channel must be show in a picuturebox, how to do? Picturebox1.Image=??? The article http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/NET/Code/Libraries/Shell_Projects/Getting_

From what I have read, there isn't really a converter to icon format..it becomes a png file. I tried: 1: Dim bmp As Bitmap = CType(Bitmap.FromFile("C:\myfolder\file.bmp"), Bitmap) 2: Dim ico As Icon = Icon.FromHandle(bmp.GetHicon()) 3: Dim file As FileStream = New FileStream("C:\myfolder\file.ico",FileMode.OpenOrCreate) 4: ico.Save(file) 5: file.Close()

hey all, i'm trying to add an image to my custom control so that it looks unique in my toolbox. i saw in a webcast that all you had to do was add the image to the project and change the Build Action property to Embedded Resource. i did that, recompiled it. but when i delete the old item from the toolbox and add the new dll it still shows the default icon. does the image need to be a certain size or something, i'm at a loss.

I have a bitmap and make the color transparent; mybitmap.MakeTransparent(Color.Black) When I save it as a Icon, the black color is not transparent. However, if I save it as a bitmap then display it using windows explorer, the black color is in fact transparent. Could it be that the bitmap is not an alpha bitmap that causes the icon to not have the black color transparent? --

I am building this SQL Server database app in which i can store files. In order to display files I want to have the app show the associated icon for the extension of the file that is in the database. Therefore the file doesnt really exist on the user's hard drive. All the file extracting techniques require that I have the actual file on the drive in order to get an icon for it. There is a workaround for this: i could create dummy files with...

Hi, I have an app (written in .NET 2.0) which updates a picturebox according to some user input (a slider control). when the user makes a change i loop through all of the pixels, do a calculation and update the picture. i currently use the GDI SetPixel method on each pixel of the Pictureboxes image. This is proving far to slow, about 1.5 seconds on average. This app needs to display the update as fast as possible. Has anyone got any...

Hi - I am trying to set the transperency of an icon, based on certain conditions. Essentially I am trying to achieve the "disabled" icon look. I was able to find code that is supposed to achieve this look, but it does not. Instead what I get is an icon with a blue tinge. I would have posted the image, but am not sure if one can or how. I am no expert at graphics and would not even know where to begin to resolve this issue. Code block: ...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
