My application writes a text data file to a folder on another computer. The
other computer is mapped by drive letter to the root (C) shared folder, eg as
G:. The network is simple peer2peer, shared root folders etc.
Immediately after restarting the application computer, and when my
application attempts to write to the mapped network computer G:, VB returns a
"network not accessible" error.
This error will persist until I open WinExplorer on the local computer and
click on the network drive letter G:. I then close Explorer and my
application will happily write to the remote folder on G: (until the computer
is restarted).
I overcome this in a very awkward manner, writing a script that opens the
network drive with the command "explorer \G"
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Try using UNC naming convention
\\Server\Share\ Filename
Otherwise you may want to post this in a VB6 newsgroup... This is a
..net group.

Thanks Chris,
I suspected that may be the only way which I will need to try.

I wrote my own directory browser in order to get around a bug where
tkFileDialog.askdirectory() can't handle non-ascii paths. However, I
have a problem where I call os.listdir() on a mapped network drive,
e.g. os.listdir("Z:\\"), and if the network drive is unavailable, the
UI hangs until the OS returns with an exception because the network
shared drive is unavailable.
I would like to work around this by simply not looking into ...

Hello,
Im grabbing tables via VB code using visual foxpro ODBC drives.
The tables directory is in a mapped network drive. The code works fine
and does the job, however if the computer is idle for a while the
network drive apears to have a red X on the icon and the drive becomes
disconnected. this seems to effect the VB code from grabbing the
tables. I get an error saying the specific table cannot be found. If i
manually open the mapped...

Hi All,
I am trying to access a mapped network drive from a service that I have
created.
The service needs to create/delete folders/files on a network drive. When I
tried to connect to a folder on mapped network drive (eg. N:\Storage that
corresponds to \\FS1NS\SharedDir\), I get an error as "Could not find part
of path N:\".

I have a service which is a Windows Service, but it is running under a User
account - I enter my own credentials on installing.
It can access network files by specifying the full UNC path, i.e.
\\server\share, but it can't use mapped drive letters.
Is there anyway I can modify it so that it can?
Thanks

I have tried to use the IWshRuntimeLibrary and
ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT * FROM Win32_LogicalDisk") to get all
Logical Drives, Mapped Network Drives, Shared Folders and Shared Drives with
limited Success because there is a bug apparently in using IWshRuntimeLibrary.
There must be some API calls to get this information since Windows Explorer
seems to be able to get. Can anyone tell me what API's are used. I know
GetLogicalDrivesA...

Hello,
I'm trying to create an admin page that can run miscellaneous scripts for
our IT department. Currently, I'm trying to create a script that can map a
network drive for a user (e.g. a form where I can input \\path\folder, drive
letter, and domain\user). Is this possible? If so, can someone point me in
the right direction?
Thank you,
Brian Nicholson

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
