carriage return in a text file

hi, all,
after I read a string from a text file, which contains a hidden character
(carriage return) some where in the string, how can I remove this hidden
character, because when I populated it to another text file, this carriage
return character caused some problem.
thanks.

Take a look at 'System.String. Replace',
'Microsoft.Visu alBasic.Strings .Replace' and 'ControlChars.C r'.

I am writing a Java program to read in XML file, modify some elements slightly, and then write it out. That XML file is prepared in Docbook. It works fine, except that it is disturbing the carriage returns in places where they have meaning. Attached are a sample input file, the sample output file, and a simplified version of my Java program. My real file, examines certain element's attributes and adds certain elements to the DOM...

I have an xml file that is read into an object using serialization. One of the objects has a string field called delimeter that I want to contain a carriage return. Instead of trying to include the carriage return, I used "\r" thinking that when it was read back into the object it would be interpreted as a carriage return. Instead, I am getting the string literal instead of the escape sequence. Does anybody have a slick way of telling it...

Hi All - I have some data that I export from Access to a pipe-delimited text file. Unfortunately, the text file always has a carriage return symbol at the end. I need to export this file frequently and send to a system that cannot accept this character at the end of the file. I am looking for a way, perhaps with VB code, to automate this process. I found this code on another Google Group, but I can't get it to work.

Using ASP.Net and VB.net I have textboxes (<asp:textbox id......>) in which the user will be entering paragraphs. They are multiline (several rows and several columns). The carriage returns that the user puts in (return/enter key) do not show up when the data is retrieved. It is one long line. Is there any way to make the user's paragraph divisions show up in the report?

Hello, I am attempting to write an awesome perl script. Before it can do anything useful, it must first be able to read in a file, and write out a file (Note: I am NOT talking about text files). Here are the two subroutines I wrote to try to do this: sub Load { my $file = &Prompt("File Name?"); open(INFO, $file); # Open the file my @lines = <INFO>; # Read it into an array close(INFO);

Thanks in advance who will look at it. I have been encountering an issue which I can’t find a way out of it. What my pgm does: It (java codes) reads oracle table data and creates flat text data files. Another part of the program distributes the extracted text files to unix systems. Problem first occurred: Opening those files in Unix box shows carriage return in the middle of the record as well as at the end of the record.

My db allows the user to send email via CDO. The body of the email is determined in code. I have built an email form with To, CC and Subject lines and a large text box for the body of the message so the user can edit the default email message body before sending the message. But when I populate the large text box (txtBody), I can't get it to include the carriage returns. I've tried vbNewLine, vbCrLf, Chr(10) and Chr(13). I've got the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
